Body Composition is a health-related fitness component that is described as the ratio of body fat to lean body tissue, including muscle, bone, water, and connective tissue such as ligaments, cartilage, and tendons. Body Composition also includes Nutrition. It is important that students learn the relationship between calorie intake and output.

NUTRITION FRUITION

SET-UP:

  1. Scatter nutrition information cards, upside down in the center circle of the basketball court.
  2. Place numbers on the walls. 1 on the South/west wall, 2 on the North /east wall, 3 on the West/north wall, 4 on the East/south wall, 5 on the North/west wall, 6 on the South/east wall, 7 on the West/south wall and the 8 on the East/north wall..

EXPLANATION:

  1. Students will be running to the numbered walls according to the number on their card. They should touch the wall near the number and then continue. (If you will have students start at the highest number and then descend, you will have students more spread out.)
  2. Each minute students will repeat the process.
  3. At the end of the last minute, students will take their cards and record the information that they need on their worksheets. They should answer the completion questions on the back.

ACTIVITY:

  1. Students will begin scattered around the basketball sidelines.
  2. When the music begins, students will run to the center and pick up a card.
  3. Look at the number of walls, and hurry to touch each numbered wall required before time is up.
  4. If all of their walls have been accomplished, they should return to the basketball sideline and wait until the music stops.
  5. If the music stops before they are finished running their walls, they should immediately pick a new card and then return to where they were on the first card and finish the activity before proceeding to the next card.
  6. Keep all cards in your possession to be used later.
  7. At the end of the activity, students will take all of their cards and record the required information. Return cards to the center of the floor upside down and begin completing the completion questions on the back.

Directions: You will perform an aerobic activity as you choose a food card from the center of the gym. You will have one minute to choose a card and then complete the number of walls requested on the card. Once the aerobic portion is completed you should return to start position and wait for the signal to begin again. If you haven’t finished when the signal to begin again occurs. Pick a new card and then finish the previous one before starting the new one.
