2004 AIChE Annual Meeting in Austin Texas, Monday, 8 November 2004.

Monetary awards of $500, $300 and $200

This poster contest is to encourage student activities in the green engineering area. Green engineering is defined as the design, commercialization, and use of processes and products, which are feasible and economical while

a)minimizing generation of pollution at the source

b)and minimizing risk to human health and the environment.

The Green Engineering Student Paper and Poster Competition is in the following session:

Student Poster Paper Competition, Monday 12:30 PM, 8 November 2004. This year this consists of sessions 296 – 306 and is held in Hall 4 of theAustinConvention Center. To submit a poster for the Student Poster Paper Competition, submit your 200 word abstract via the web Questions regarding the poster session in general can be address to Professor Bowman ().

Three monetary awards will be presented based on judging of the posters and presentations from this session. These awards will consist of $500, $300 and $200, for the top three finishers. These awards will be presented at the end of the Student Poster Paper competition.

To receive full consideration for this award a student presenter should apply to Dr. Robert P. Hesketh () by 3 November, 2004. In this email please give the following information:

  1. Paper title and author(s)
  2. Relationship of presentation to green engineering (1 paragraph). Ideal presentations should be related to the design, commercialization, and use of processes and products, which are feasible and economical while
  3. minimizing generation of pollution at the source
  4. and minimizing risk to human health and the environment.
  5. A preliminary assessment of your new process or product compared to the traditional process or product. For example, the results of a Tier 1 or similar assessment of the green engineering process compared to the traditional process could be presented in this email. This assessment uses both economic and environmental criteria. For additional information see the text by David T. Allen and D. R Shonnard, Green Engineering: Environmentally Conscious Design of Chemical Processes, ISBN# 0-13-061908-6, Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 2001 or the green engineering website

Qualifications:

  1. The presenter must have performed the work as an undergraduate student.
  2. To receive full consideration, the student must apply for the award by contacting Robert P. Hesketh at the details given above.
