A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE JAMES M. BROWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF WALHALLA UPON RECEIVING THE PRESTIGIOUS “CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO’S FINEST AWARD”.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that James M. Brown Elementary School in Walhalla received the prestigious “Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Award”; and

Whereas, each year the Palmetto’s Finest Award is presented to two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in this State, and James M. Brown Elementary was among nine finalists for the two elementary school awards this year; and

Whereas, James M. Brown Elementary won this award through the combined efforts of numerous people. Principal Kathy Whitmire provides excellent leadership and all faculty, staff, students, parents, and community supporters all work together to provide an educational program that meets the needs of each of the children at this wonderful school; and

Whereas, the award is given based on an evaluation by colleagues and fellow educators. The application process includes components on student achievement, faculty training, program goals and delivery systems, office practices, and community involvement; and

Whereas, James M. Brown Elementary was presented this award at a banquet held in March in Columbia which was attended by approximately one thousand three hundred professional educators, community leaders, legislative representatives, and parents from across the State; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize this truly fine school and its students, faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers upon receipt of this prestigious award which signifies outstanding educational achievement and accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and congratulate James M. Brown Elementary School of Walhalla upon receiving the prestigious “Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Award”.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kathy Whitmire, Principal, James M. Brown Elementary.
