1st Coordination Meeting between China and CEEC (16 + 1) in the field of forestry
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food is together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organizing the 1st High-level Meeting on the Coordination Mechanism between the People's Republic of China and the Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) and the Forestry Industry Business and Investment Conference. The events will take place on Tuesday, 24th May in Brdo pri Kranju in Slovenia. The participation of ministers, state secretaries and other high representatives responsible for the field of forestry from Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Estonia, the People's Republic of China, Latvia and Slovakia as well as of representatives of several business companies is expected at the events.
Slovenia has with the support of the 4th Leaders’ Summit of CEE countries and the People's Republic of China in November 2015 become the coordinator for the establishment of a mechanism to coordinate the cooperation between China and the CEEC in the field of forestry. The first meeting of the coordination mechanism 16 + 1 aimed at adopting the Action Plan for the coordination mechanism in the field of forestry in the period 2016-2017 which will guide further work in this area is a result of the acknowledgement and trust bestowed in Slovenia. The mechanism for the coordination of the cooperation in the field of forestry and its executive coordination body, which will be hosted by the Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, will serve as a link between China and the CEE countries. This link enables the cooperation in the field of sustainable and multi-purpose management with forests, the exchange of information, good practices and common projects in the field of forestry research and the role of forestry in the forest-wood chain and the incentive for trade, expert knowledge and technology in forestry from wood-processing to green products and green technology.
The high-level meeting will be presided by Minister Dejan Židan. In the framework of the event the Slovenian Minister and the Chinese Minister responsible for forestry Mr Zhang Jianlong will together with the leaders of other participating delegations sign the Action Plan for the cooperation in the framework of the mechanism for the coordination of the cooperation between China and the CEE countries. Concurrently with the high-level meeting the Forestry Industry Business and Investment Conference will take place, where the Slovenian and Chinese ministers will address the representatives of the industry. The business conference is intended for the exchange of views and outlooks on the general situation of the forestry industry with a special emphasis on wood and wooden products and non-wood forest products. The business investment conference is intended for representative and innovative businesses, representatives of academic and research institutions and representatives of business associations. Approximately 100 participants are expected at both events (the high-level meeting and the business conference).
