Company procedures means the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Locate and identify procedures, documentation, and equipment for testing a gas meter using a bell prover.

Performance criteria

1.1Company procedures for testing a gas meter using a bell prover are located and interpreted in relation to specified job requirements.

RangeNZS 5259, Test Method Manual, IANZ requirements.

1.2Potential environmental and safety hazards are identified in accordance with company procedures.

1.3Test equipment, components, and materials are identified and described in terms of type and function.

Rangeequipment may include but is not limited to – bell prover, meter, labels, external leak test, rating caps, test certificates, internal leak test, tools, fittings, seals;

function may include but is not limited to – pressure, capacity, flow, leakage, conversion.

1.4Equipment is described in terms of potential hazards of incorrect application and operation, and the steps to avoid them are described in accordance with company procedures.

1.5Resource requirements are identified and sourced in accordance with company procedures.

Outcome 2

Prepare to and test gas meters using a bell prover.

Performance criteria

2.1Gas meter details are checked prior to test.

Rangesoundness, conditioning, badge plate, seals, dials, make and model, serial number, index reading, metric or imperial, year of manufacture.

2.2Bell prover is checked prior to test.

Rangeposition of bell, leaks, bell temperature, room temperature, zero, calibration labels, rating caps, valves.

2.3Tests are performed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company procedures.

Rangelabelling, external leakage, accuracy of registration, internal leakage, sealing.

2.4Test equipment is used in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.

Outcome 3

Complete reporting and documentation for testing gas meters.

Performance criteria

3.1Test results are recorded in accordance with company procedures.

Rangereport number, capacity, flow rate, leakage, accuracy, date, person conducting test, person certifying test.

3.2Information is communicated to other parties, both internal and external, in accordance with company requirements.

Rangetest certificates, currency certification, recommendations, identification tags, labels, customers, clients.
