Explanatory notes

1This unit standard is designed for people who require some form of support with their learning, either through additional resources, specialised equipment, or adapted teaching programmes.

3Definitions

Public transport refers to bus, train or ferry.

Timetabled refers to arrival and departure times of public transport as established by the transport provider.

4It is recommended that this unit standard is assessed against in conjunction with other Supported Learning unit standards to allow for integrated assessment.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Board public transport.

Evidence requirements

1.1Timetabled public transport is selected in accordance with the desired destination and the desired time-frame as determined by the assessor.

1.2A ticket or travel pass is purchased or tendered in accordance with the circumstances.

Outcome 2

Travel on public transport.

Evidence requirements

2.1Ticket or travel pass is kept secure throughout the journey.

2.2Personal possessions are stowed in a manner that prevents obstruction and loss throughout the journey.

2.3Personal safety is adhered to throughout the journey.

Rangepersonal safety may include but is not limited to – holding on to strap and/or rail, remaining seated.

2.4Travel regulations are adhered to in accordance with the public transport taken.

Rangetravel regulations on public transport may include but are not limited to – not eating or drinking, pulling or pushing the bell only when near destination, remaining seated, refraining from speaking to the driver, not smoking, not shouting.

Outcome 3

Exit from public transport at the desired destination.

Evidence requirements

3.1Personal possessions are retrieved without risk of damage to self, others, and property.

3.2Correct point of departure is selected and indicated in accordance with the desired destination.

3.3Exit from the public transport is completed safely, without risk of damage to self, others, and property.

2.6Focus on the task is maintained while crossing the road.
