Racing Rules

A.Classes

1.The following classes will be offered at all District 8 Points’ Races:

Saturday: Open Novice, A OPC, A Mono, B Hydro, B OPC, Sport 20, and B Mono

Sunday: Open Novice, A Hydro, Sport 40, A Mod Tunnel, Open Hydro, B Mod Tunnel, Sport 60, Gas Mono, A O/B Hydro, and Sport 18 RTR

2.Open Novice contestants will not be allowed to run other classes. Each contestant will be awarded a certificate of participation or plaque.

3.Classes with less than 10 boats will race 4 heats. All heats will be scored for District 8 points. Classes with 10 or more boats will run a trophy dash. The trophy dash will replace the fourth round. The top five boats after three heats qualify for the trophy dash. The sixth boat comes from a consolation heat. The consolation heat will not exceed 6 boats. Points from the three heats and the final count as district points. No points are awarded for the consolation heat.

  1. A full flight of one class must be run before another class is run.
  2. 25 points will be required for any racer to qualify for a Consolation or Main heat. No boat shall advance with zero points.

6. Any boat that is taken out of competition from a DQ call against another boat will receive 4th place points.

B.Awards

1.Distribution of awards will be as follows on years that chevrons are to be awarded:

a.3 boats in a class - 1 award

b.5 boats in a class - 2 awards

c.9 boats in a class - 3 awards

d.12 boats in a class - 4 awards

e.18 boats in a class - 5 awards

2. To qualify for District 8 Points, a class must be run at least one more than half the district points races.

C.Safety Rules

1.Prop shields are required and will be:

a.Made of 1/8" or thicker wood, .020 or thicker metal, or 1/8" or thicker lexan. No Plexiglas.

b.Prop shield is to enclose all sides of prop.

2.At each points race there will be at least 2 retrieval boats with Coast Guard approved floatation devices aboard. Non-swimmers will not be allowed in the retrieve boats.

3.During controlled open water, every driver must have a pit person while driving. Hitting a called dead boat during controlled open water will result in the boat driver being disqualified from the first heat.

4.A flagrant infraction will be assessed for hitting a called dead boat resulting in disqualification from that heat.

5.If any floating parts fall off a boat during competition, except as a result of a boat to boat collision, that boat will be awarded 6th place points upon completion of the heat.

6.Boats must be brought into the pits at the end of a race. The course may not be cut without the CDs approval. The racer is responsible for providing a means of stopping the boat if it cannot be stopped with the throttle. Catching a running boat will be cause for disqualification. A boat losing throttle must demonstrate throttle control before entering the next heat.

7.Picking up a missed buoy is not allowed. An additional penalty will be assessed for trying to pick up a missed buoy.

8.There is only one lap penalty for missing one or all the back/front stretch buoys and one or all the corner buoys.

D.District 8 Procedures

1.District 8 rules and procedure changes can be enacted and voted upon only at a District 8 meeting. The location, date, and time of a District 8 meeting will be provided 60 days prior to the meeting.

2.District 8 Contest Director's Guidelines will be used at all Points Races.

3.All Points’ Races results are to be submitted to the District statistician within five (5) days of the event. District funds must be submitted to the District Director within 1 week. The Race CD shall also keep a copy of the results until the end of the racing season. If the points and Dist funds are not submitted within the required time the C.D. will be banned from District competition for one year. All debt must be paid before a banned member may enter a contest.

4.At each Points’ Race, two (2) Drivers’ Representatives from other than the sponsoring club will be elected/appointed by the drivers in attendance. His/Her responsibilities shall be to bring driver concerns to the CD's attention and also to serve as Event Safety Directors.

5. Frequency pins will be used. Unauthorized use of a transmitter without frequency clearance or failure to properly turn off a transmitter will result in a five dollar fine payable to the host club for the first occurrence. A second occurrence during the same meet will result in disqualification from the heat.

6.A boat hitting waterfowl that has been “called out” will be disqualified in that heat.

7. At each Points Race, the lead boat must complete three laps of the heat race before being awarded first place if no other boats are running at the time.

8.During Controlled Open Water, only those boats running in the next flight will be permitted to use the Open Water. An equal amount of Open Water will be provided for each Flight. Open Water should not exceed 60 minutes per Flight.

  1. District 8 shall receive $3 from the host club for each boat entering in the classes offered at Points’ Races. Monies thus derived shall be used for District 8 expenses and awards.
  2. The District will provide trophy plates for all District 8 Points’ Races. For classes of 10 or more, a photo plaque will be offered. A $10 fee will be added to the total boat fees submitted for each plaque. A club can opt out of the photo plaque awards.

11.The Entry Fee charged for a District 8 Points Race shall not exceed $7/class. A $1 a day fee may be added for any club having to rent a "Porta-Potty." Pre-registration is recommended. Entries received after the Wednesday deadline prior to the event will be charged double the regular entry fee.

12.In order for a club to vote at a District 8 Meeting, it must have paid its Club Registration to NAMBA. Each club is allowed two (2) votes.

E.Noise Suppression

1.All boats entering competition must measure under 90 dB at 50 feet when traveling at full throttle.

2.If a muffling device is lost during a heat race and the noise level is over the limit, the boat will receive 25 points if the race has started. If the race has not started, the boat will be called off the race course.

F.District 8 Special Rules

  1. The use of "Hydro Shoes" rear sponsons is permitted in District 8 - 7.5cc Sport Hydro Class. However, a boat with "Hydro Shoes" cannot set a NAMBA record since "Hydro Shoes" are not recognized in the NAMBA R/C Boat Rulebook.
