Youth Bible Camp Counselor Application Packet

Dear Applicant,

We are excited that you are interested in becoming a Bible Camp Counselor. This application must be filled out completely. If you are selected as a counselor, your selection is only applicable to the current camp year and you will be notified to come in for a formal interview. Should you be recommended for hire following your formal interview you will be notified and will have to attend a mandatory Camp Training on the specified date(s). Thank you for your interest and cooperation. Applications are due to Baptist State Headquarters by April 21, 2017.

Have you ever worked at the Youth Bible Camp before? If so, when? ______

Requirements:

1. ALL counselors must be high school graduates 18 years of age or above.

2. ALL counselors must be baptized believers in Jesus Christ.

3. ALL counselors must be actively involved in Youth and/or Church activities.

4. ALL counselors must be a person who has a reputation of being a committed Christian in their church, school and home.

5. ALL counselors must have a strong desire to work with kids and help them develop a personal relationship with Christ.

6. ALL counselors must abstain from alcohol, drugs and tobacco products and the use of profane language.

7. ALL counselors are required to be present at the Camp Training and to be present for the entire camp.

No counselors will be permitted to conduct any personal travel during the camp and the camp must be the first and only priority.

Job Descriptions:

 Junior Counselors can be ages 18-20. Senior Counselors must be 21 and above.

 All counselors must be prepared to be vigilant of children 24 hours a day and able to move with, interact with and lead children in a variety of activities.

 Senior Counselors will lead all classroom instruction for assigned age groups. This includes leading worship, devotions, prayer, rap sessions or other group sessions, etc.

 Junior Counselors will be responsible for assisting with bible classes, leading recreation, moving with the students at all times and assisting in practical areas of service.

 All counselors must be able to do the following with no physical limitations:

o Cleaning

o Bunk Duty: ensuring the campers are safe and secured each night and stay in the bunks!

o Lead Devotions

o Teach, testify and witness

o Report issues with discipline, sickness or safety (first responders)

o Encourage campers

o Support the total camp program

o Know and obey all camp rules

o Respect authority

Rules and Guidelines:

All counselors will be required to follow the provided protocols for camp operations, structure and etcetera.

1. Counselors must spend the majority of their time with campers, for example: Monitor and talk with them during free times, interact with them during class times and worship and sit with them during meals.

2. At bedtime, counselors must remain in the bunks with the students, students should NEVER be left unattended at any time!

3. Senior counselors will have required nightly meetings that they must attend, they can relay information to junior counselors who will handle supervision in their brief absence.

4. Be mindful to respect and adhere to curfews.

5. No cliques! Interact appropriately and with all staff! Students can pick up on division.

6. There should be NO fraternization with campers for any reason. No counselor should be alone with a camper of the opposite sex for any reason.

7. Accompany any child who is sick or has discipline issues to the appropriate personnel. Do not send campers anywhere alone. Ensure you know where the Nurses Unit is located and how to get into contact with the Directors.

8. NEVER talk negatively to kids! Don’t speak negatively about the camp, other staff members or other campers.

9. If you see work to be done jump in and do it without having to be told.

10. Be on time for every event, keep the schedule in your possession at all times.

11. Follow all camp procedures.

12. Adhere to our policy on respectable dress: All clothing shall be neat, clean, and acceptable in repair and appearance and shall be worn within the bounds of decency and good taste as appropriate for camp events. If in doubt, follow the dress code provided to the campers!
