Literacy / New Literacy & Language scheme Unit 6
  • Children look at themes of envy and courage, and explore them within fantasy stories. They will think about key features in fantasy stories, and the importance of setting. They will then use drama to explore character motivation, and they will write a fantasy story set in space.
  • Children will develop awareness of information texts by exploring their key features and considering the importance of using different presentation methods. They will gather information about chocolate and present it in a chocolate exhibition.

Numeracy /
  • To count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward or backward
  • To add & subtract two 2-digit numbers using an appropriate written method
  • To find ½ and ¼ of shapes, objects & quantities
  • To solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication and division facts, including problems in contexts.
  • To solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change
  • To identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides and symmetry in a vertical line
  • To identify and describe the properties of 3-D shapes, including the number of edges, vertices and faces
  • To use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement including distinguishing between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise), and movement in a straight line.
  • To interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables

Unit 6 The Church is Born
  • To know that when the apostles received the Holy Spirit they spread the good news & know that we can help to spread the good news;
  • To know about the early Christian community and understand that we are part of the Christian community today;
  • To know that the apostles realised that God could work through them;
  • To know the story of Peter’s escape from Prison and reflect on its meaning.

Science / Plants & Animals
  • To notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults
  • To find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food and air)
  • To describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.
  • To observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants
  • To find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

Topic / Healthy Me
  • To find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food and air)
  • To describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.

P.E / Games -Travelling, Sending & Receiving
Develop methods of throwing and catching using large apparatus and situations involving partner and group work. Skills are practiced for dribbling, travelling, using hockey sticks but require children to refine these skills. Games are competitive, co-operative and involved children making decisions, keeping score and inventing and appreciating rules.
