Wow! What a week in the life of R.J.ReynoldsHigh School!

  • The RJR Men’s Tennis Team won the state championship title – AGAIN!
  • We celebrated the participation, personal development and accomplishments of all our RJR athletes and their coaches at the annual All-Sports Banquet.
  • We were entertained and amazed by the talents of our students and the creativity and dedication of our music teachers at the Chorus, Band and Orchestra concerts.
  • We celebrated the end of the PTSA year with our final general membership meeting where we installed new executive officers and recognized 37 students who received Presidential Service Awards for their service to our school and community.
  • We celebrated and honored our seniors with a Class Day program and picnic.
  • We took a number of opportunities to recognize, thank and honor Dr. Paschal for his outstanding tenure as our Principal. Dr. Paschal directed and supported Reynolds for seven years and is leaving our school in a very strong position. The PTSA hosted a Farewell Reception in conjunction with our meeting Wednesday evening to thank him for his service as a Demon.

Most of these activities occurred after hours. During school hours, teachers continued to prepare and teach; students continued to study and learn; and our guidance office, administrators and other staff continued to buzz with all their daily responsibilities.

Our new PTSA Executive Officers are:

Presidents: Lisa and William Dull

1st Vice Presidents: Lisa and Greg Carter

2nd Vice Presidents: Jean Anne and Scott Semke

Treasurer: David Hinton

Secretary: Tarra Jolly

We want to offer special thanks to Jean Anne and Scott Semke for their strong leadership, their enthusiasm and their service to RJR this year. They will be a tough act to follow!

Finally, the end of this school year may be right around the corner, but there are still opportunities to support and to serve our school. Please respond to those pleas for exam proctors if you are able. National Teacher Appreciation Week may be over, but it is always a good time to thank a teacher. Encourage a student to finish strong.

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend! We are proud to be R.J. Reynolds Demons,

Lisa and William Dull

2012-‘13 RJR PTSA Presidents

RJR Class of 1979

On May 23rd, we recognized 17 students who received Presidential Service Awards for contributing more than 100 hours EACH in service to their community. Ten students received awards for giving more than 175 hours of their time and another 10 for more than 250 hours of service. The names of these students were included in an earlier edition of this newsletter. Key Club was recognized for giving more than 1,000 hours back to our community. The combined impact of these students was more than 6,000 hours of service, a portion of which directly benefited R.J.ReynoldsHigh School. We know many other RJR students and RJR service clubs volunteer many hours each year. Thanks to any and every student who volunteered time to RJR this year. Our students make a difference!

Special thanks to:

  • Senior Alex Wolfe who shared his talent and his time setting up and running the audio system for the All-Sports Banquet.
  • The RJR A Cappella groups for performing at multiple events the same week as the Chorus concert.
  • Bethany Malchuk, Michael Pittard, Jesse Harvey and Anita Patel for sharing their artistic talents during Dr. Paschal’s surprise retirement reception.
  • Seniors Eric Barefoot and Kshipra Hemal for their participation in our PTSA General Membership Meeting.

Your gift makes a difference…and every gift counts!

It’s impossible for us to believe that the end of the school year is only two weeks away! As we wind down this year’s Legacy Campaign, we would once again like to thank all of the dedicated R.J. Reynolds parents who contributed to its success. Countless hours were spent redesigning the brochure, stuffing envelopes, signing letters, soliciting corporate sponsors, delivering Legacy packets, tracking Legacy donations and planning the Legacy Celebration. The Legacy Campaign is a “group effort” and our “group” was AWESOME, so thanks again to…

Jean Anne & Scott Semke, Michele & Mike Wolfert, Lynn Gwyn, Pam Fish, Gina Caudill, Marie Arcuri, Kim & Chris Karahalios, Deborah Casstevens, Duane Davis, Shannon Rainey, Kathy Welch, Marybeth Wallace and Kim Kearney!!

Most importantly, we would like to thank our incredibly generous 249 donors and Corporate Sponsors who contributed $120,545 to R.J.ReynoldsHigh School this year!! Those funds touched the lives of each and every RJR student, whether it was in the classroom, through our arts programs or on the athletic fields! Please do not doubt for one second that your gift made a difference!

Finally, we are thrilled to announce that we will leave the Legacy Campaign in the very capable and inspired hands of Marie and Guy Arcuri! Thanks in advance to the Arcuris for agreeing to serve our school community as the 2012-2013 Legacy Campaign chairs! They are already hard at work and under the Arcuris’ leadership, the campaign is sure to flourish next year!
