Word of the Month - Thoughtfulness

Dear Parents and Carers,

Young Voices:

Many thanks go to Mrs. Smith who organised and prepared our children for the

Young Voices concert at the Arena on 21st January. The children’s behaviour

was impeccable and the evening was a stunning success.

It even included a tribute to David Bowie!

Thanks also to Mrs. Plumtree and Mr. Digby for chaperoning them.

Egyptian Day:

The Y5 children and teachers were investigating the tombs and customs of the Ancient Egyptians on Friday 15th. The children were dressed in the Ancient garb and making canopic jars, using hieroglyphs and bringing their topic alive. It was good fun to visit and thanks to the teachers for resourcing and planning the enjoyable day.

Read Write Inc Parent Workshop:

Our Reception parents attended a workshop on how we teach reading and how well the children are doing learning their letter sounds on 19th January. The Nursery begins the good work on matching letter shapes to sounds through games and songs. This is continued as a daily programme in Reception and children stay on the programme for as long as they require. Sometimes into Y3. The sessions are interactive and linked to reading. The children respond very well. We continue to ask that parents read at least 4 times a week with their child and we will be launching rewards on 3rd March on World Book Day. Be prepared to dress up as a book character!

Teacher Absence:

Mr. Campbell has had to attend Jury service over the last fortnight and we are grateful that he has been covered by our friend of the school, Mrs. Morris.

Miss. Allen continues to be assessed for her back injury and is covered by Mrs. Ferguson- Powell.

Miss. Keyworth returns in July now that she has given birth to Thomas. She is being covered by Mrs. Jackson. Our thanks go to both Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Jackson who are supporting our school.

PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY- We have a vacancy for a Parent Governor. We are looking for a keen enthusiastic parent who can support our school improvement plans. We would ask that you attend a main meeting once a term and join a sub- committee that requires a meeting each term also. This would mean 6 meetings a year. The meetings are held in school from 7 pm to around 9 pm usually. It is a friendly and supportive Governing Body and our staff appreciate the work that they do. If you would like to join us, please ask for an application pack in the school office.

Soundclash Fundraising!

Many thanks again to Richard and Simon who raised a whopping £ 220.22 for our Playground Fund. Keep your eyes peeled as now that the spring is on its way, we will start to make changes to our environment.

Mrs. Culloden.
