Everyday:

I ran pits 3 and 4 at some point every day this week and I also presented the safety topic during the morning toolbox meeting as I always do. It has been my job for a few weeks now. I also ran the sweep in 401 whenever it was necessary. Throughout the week, I also did some JSA’s and some bin entry permits with James so he could see how they went.

Monday:

Today we worked on cleaning the facility. It’s not that it’s dirty, just the weeds and grass need mowed. I did that for a while along Chris. I then had to stop and cleanup the ground pile. We wanted to get that done so that we could get rid of the skid steer so that it isn’t sitting here not being used.

Tuesday:

Today was our new temp James’ first day so we focused a lot on getting him trained up. I made a few calls to CorenaPendry and the state fire marshal so that we could move forward on my project. I haven’t heard back from the fire marshal yet, but Corena has assured me she is getting all of the requirements and guidelines we must follow for the secondary containment structure. After that, I started going through all of the materials and tools we will need and made a bill of materials, just so we can get an idea of what it will cost us.

Wednesday:

Today James and I vac’d out bin 306. There is some caked on grain sitting above the sumps, so I vac’d all of that out so we could pull corn from it again. Once that was done, Chris and I put the doors back on it so that we can put more corn in there. Turns out we need it for storage and not to pull corn from it. The reason I cleaned it is so that when we do need to pull from it, it won’t be clogged and we won’t have to worry about a full bin sitting on the sumps.

Thursday:

Today James and I sprayed the weeds all around the facility and the ground pile. It took a while, but when we got that done we started showing him how to work the pits. He caught on pretty quick, and we let him unload trucks while Dan and I replaced the belts on bin 301’s auger. We were right there to watch him in case anything went wrong, but he did a good job.

Friday:

Joe and Damon were gone this morning, so I had to run the entire toolbox meeting. This meant that along with doing the safety topic, I also had to give out the daily tasks. Once that was done, I worked on putting some of James’ trainings in the RCI system and getting some of the paperwork done for my bill of materials. After that Joe and Damon came back and I went out to pit 3 to train James on loading and unloading. I was confident enough with his understanding of what to do that I let him run it by himself for a bit while I watched and then I eventually left him alone to run it. We had some trouble with the sweep in 401 and the auger at 203 so I went to help out there. At the end of the day, I went to the top and got the month end bin measurements from all of the bins except 401 since it’s open and we can’t really get an accurate reading anyway.
