  • District school report – Hollie
  • Hollie provided a summary of the district School Council June meeting. The minister announced that education funding with be restored to support students learning and growth. This will affect schools in various ways. The public budget presentation will be on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at 6:30pm at the Education Center. The school liaison for next year will be Trustee Lola Major and from the executive council Superintendent Wendy Fox. Further information on the meeting can be found on the district website.

School Report

Dean’s Items:

  • Staffing and budget
  • With the budget increase the school received $2300.00 Part time staff were able to be hired for more hours. The school will budget for 486 student enrollments. Only approximately 34-34% of school fees are paid each year. This causes the school struggles in budgeting and providing options to the students as the board requires the school to pay a sum of $50.00/student to the district, whether it is paid to the school or not.
  • Modernization
  • Construction has begun in the school. The construction will continue as per the plan, with hopes to complete the wings as planned. The school will be able to continue to provide services throughout this.
  • Word of the month: “Compassion”
  • Students are struggling as the year comes to an end, as is typical!
  • Welcome back on Sept 2, 2015 – office opens August 18
  • Office opens August 18 and students back on September 2, 2015 (Wednesday). Grade 6 students will have the school until 10:00am, Grade 7 and Grade 8 students will come after that.
  • Staff learning days – August 27 -28 -31 Sept 1, 2015.
  • Staff will work on cumulative files and around working with students who need additional help. Literacy and numeracy options will be discussed. Middle schools will meet to discuss calendars to ensure there isn’t overlap.

Cayley’s Items:

  • IPP final reviews will be completed by June 15th.
  • A new program has been purchased by the District and we are looking forward to making the IPPs more meaningful for students and teachers
  • June 10th - HOJA came to perform for the incoming Grade 5 students. This was highly enjoyed by the students.
  • Articulation meetings are nearly complete for our students, moving on to the next grade.
  • Home Logic will be closed on June 19th, in order to prepare for our report cards.
  • Home Logic will open again on Report Card day – June 26th
  • Final exam schedule is posted on the School Website. There has been a great turnout of volunteers to help students in need of reading, writing, or other accommodations.

Brad’s Items:

  • Thanks to Aimee and all of the track coaches for their work on our track season and track meets!! A grade 7 student was named the aggregate winner of zones.
  • June 11th - Athletic Awards Banquet. A guest speaker, an Olympic hopeful, will present. She was a former student of Wilson Middle School.
  • June 12th – Year end celebration/Field Day. Students are excited for this event.
  • Car Show – raised about $2500
  • Awesome event that many community members took in and enjoyed!
  • Clothing Orders – Staff deadline is June 22nd; student orders due June 12th
  • Locker cleanouts – June 18th – Everything cleared out of lockers, stickers and marker removed, etc.
  • Teachers will keep your own locks for 2015/16 school year. Don’t lose them! Please write the combo for each lock on MASKING TAPE and place around the bottom of the lock!!
  • If issues with locks, let me know
  • Yearbooks – June 18th
