Dear Headmaster,

Graham Cowdrey

Forgive me writing directly to you. I appreciate that this letter comes to you unannounced and not in response to any advertised position at your School. I recently completed a six-year career in the charitable fundraising sector. I am now very keen to work in Schools.

Within this letter and my attached CV I have outlined my career to date. I have been fortunate to have had a varied and rewarding life which has taken me to many parts of the globe. However my deepest interest has been working with the young.

Having completed 14 years playing professional cricket for Kent County Cricket Club I spent nine years working for Cantor Fitzgerald in London as a Public Relations Officer. For four years I coordinated the Cantor/BGC Charity Day staged every year in memory of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy in New York.

This led on to five further years working in charity fundraising.

However I have always had a strong desire to reconnect with the coaching of young cricketers. I have had over thirty years experience of coaching cricket including a recent summer at King’s School, Ely. The majority of my coaching was at The Scots College in Sydney, Australia.

Whilst I take great pride in seeing the development of the gifted players I am very keen on helping those with limited ability, but a love of the game, to make improvements to their technique.

I have a close affinity with the MCC’s Spirit of Cricket. My coaching style embraces every facet of the message of The Spirit of Cricket. I do not accept poor behaviour from young cricketers. They respect the opposition and the umpires or they do not play.

I would welcome the opportunity to make an imprint on cricket and life at your School. However I would demand that all the young cricketers upheld the reputation of the school. Your cricketers would be known for their prowess as well as their sportsmanship.

I have had a lifelong love of playing Rackets, Real Tennis and Squash. I won the doubles for Tonbridge School and was a member at Queen’s Club for many years.

I am a practising Christian and would look forward to playing a role in a pastoral capacity. The role of House Tutor would greatly appeal to me.

I have been teetotal all my life.

I would be grateful if you could keep my letter on file and, should an opening appear, I hope you will consider me for an interview.

Yours sincerely

Graham Cowdrey
