What Is Changing?

What Is Changing?

Please read below for important information on process changes for returning laptopsat WHQ in the event that a PO is cancelled or hardware is not wanted. These changes are being implementeddue to ongoing issues with request for computer equipment orders being returned to vendors.

What is changing?

PC and Mac laptop hardware which is not wanted/needed can now be returned in a new way:

  • Laptops will be sent to the Reallocation pool, where they are available for other departments to request
  • The depreciation charges for the laptop will be transferred to the recipient’s cost center
  • Hardware will no longer be returned backreturned to the vendor
  • Requests for new or used/in stock hardware is done by submitting the appropriate request guide on NikeNow for Windows Laptop, Windows Desktop, Mac Laptop, or Mac Desktop.

oBefore placing an order for a new laptop, you may check the Reallocation report on newScale to see if a returned laptop is available for immediate fulfillment (

  • Until the laptop is requested by another team and pulled from Reallocation, depreciation for capital asset items (>=$2k) remains on the purchasing cost center.

When is this happening?

  • This change is effective immediately, for new orders and those already in progress

Why is this necessary?

  • The volume of returns continues to increase, causing issues in Nike’s financial systems which may result in incorrect depreciation charges to cost centers
  • Returns to vendor incur multiple shipping charges at Nike’s expense
  • Many items can no longer be returned to vendors per vendor policy (re: custom parts or once they have been imaged with Nike software)

What can I do to prevent the need for returning equipment?

  • Talk with colleagues who already have that model, and ask for feedback
  • Review information (i.e., weight) on hardware listed in the NikeNow catalog. Each device type (Windows Laptop, Windows Desktop, Mac Laptop, and Mac Desktop should have specs and details listed in the product description. on the SPL ( comparing available model choices
  • For any questions about hardware specifications which are not answered by the SPL, please contact .

What about orders for accessories and other hardware?

Unopened non- capital items (under $21k) like monitors, keyboards, mice and RAM will continue to be shipped back to the vendor if orders are cancelled.

  • This results in Nike paying twice for shipping. Please ensure before orders are placed that equipment is necessary and will be kept
  • For lower value items, consider passing unneeded hardware to another team or returning to Nike inventory.
  • This process does not apply to laptops which are DOA (dead on arrival) or shipped as a result of vendor error. Those items, along with accessories and other asset types, will continue to be returned back to the vendor and physically shipped back.

Who can I ask if I have questions?

  • Contact for more information

We welcome your feedback on improvements to reduce the need for returning hardware and making the ordering process more clear.

Thank you,
