What If? Guidance Notes and Questionnaires

What If?is a set of three PowerPoint slideshows for LLDD learners depicting scenarios of false identity and deceit which could be encountered when using social networking sites.

Each slideshow has a ‘before and after’ section. The first section is an online conversation with a character as it would have taken place and the second section provides the ‘real’ version of the character and their situation. Each slideshow comes with a set of questions designed to stimulate discussion ‘before and after’. The questions are in a Word document and are freely editable and adaptable to suit different student groups.

To use What If?, download the zip files from our website at
Unzip the PowerPoint and WMV video files into a folder together and then open and run the PowerPoint.

Summary of the three scenarios

Simon

Simon is an old man posing as a handsome 20 year old. He claims to not get out much because he is studying. He tries to find out where the person he is talking to hangs out and if they like going to the cinema.

Lisa

Lisa is a man with an old laptop posing as an attractive 18-year-old girl with an iPad. She claims her dad can get free cinema tickets and asks for the person’s address so she can send them. She also pretends to be a cat-owner.

Jane

Jane is an older woman posing as an attractive 17-year-old, complete with bikini-clad holiday photos. She claims to live in a cottage in the country with her parents and is a dog-lover. In reality she is alone in a dirty dingy room.
