Welcome to the Wonderful World of Geography Schedule

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Geography Schedule

Notes
This is, thus far, the only schedule that the author has provided input for its creation. A special thanks, therefore, goes to Brenda Runkle for not only creating the book, but for her knowledge and expertise in the creation of this schedule.
I’m breaking this into two parts. The first part, “World Physical Geography” is based solely on the book and Teacher’s Guide.
The second part, “Map work” consists of her suggestions for learning countries. Note that under Map work, the first day is for quizzing the student on their country knowledge thus far. The remaining time is to be used to build on their knowledge. Please not only learn the country’s name and location, but the spelling of it as well. Quizzes covering the map work will occur every Monday. However, if the continent is being tested on all its countries it will be counted as a test.
Good, free, outline maps can be found in a variety of places on the web. (Look under “blank outline map”.) Three sites that you may appreciate are:
http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/testmaps/maps.htm
http://www.craftmap-us.box-i.net/
http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/
Mrs. Runkle suggests an Atlas, preferably the Nystrom Desk Atlas (ISBN 0-7825-0349-7), for use in this course.
I just looked it up and you can pick up a new copy at their website for ~$18 (plus shipping/ handling / tax). (ETA: I picked up a copy – it’s worth it, and there are lots of little tidbits there, and each continent has an “issues-today” section for extra thought.)
  • Enrichment activities are included and left up to the instructor to determine how to apply them to your own course. (These will be designated by the exclamation bullet, and will be found in the “Notes” section.)
One item that is occasionally done is Map all the ____ in the world (deserts, mountains. . .). Maybe you’d like to do this on transparency paper and overlay them as they are done? Just a thought.
Good websites: (Oh, and by the way, I can’t guarantee the “stability” of websites. . .)

umm, I guess I listed the rest in the notes of the schedule instead of here like I originally planned to. . .
