In order to be successful in this classroom, you will need to be aware of the following information:
Materials
*Textbooks:
-Elements of Literature, 6th course-assigned novels -Holt Readers
*Notebook:
-2 to 3-inch 3-ring binder with dividers labeled as follows:
-literature notes -language notes -work -vocabulary -quizzes/tests -portfolio
*Student Planner: This planner should be in class at all times. Not only will we use it to record
assignments, but it will be used as the only available hall pass. No planner, no pass!
*Thumb Drive: You can definitely use one that you already have. You do not need one with “mega”
megabytes! All you need is one with basic storage. You will be able to use it in all classes.
*Journal: Students will have a journal topic at the beginning of each class period. Please
bring either a composition notebook or a small spiral notebook to keep in class.
*Highlighters: Bring an assortment of colors to use as we edit and revise essays and read handouts.
*Sticky Notes: Since we are unable to write in our textbooks and novels, we will be using sticky
notes to jot down thoughts and questions as we read. The shape, size, and color are up to you!

Homework Policies and Expectations
Homework will be given on a nightly basis. Assignments will be in many forms such as reading, rewriting notes, answering questions, writing papers, or studying for a quiz or test. Be sure you understand the assignments before leaving school. All assignments will be listed on the class website at When you come to class, I will expect that your homework has been completed. You need to be prepared in order to move on with the rest of the class!
