Parishioners who have not made a donation or filled out a pledge card are encouraged to do so. Every gift is important and no gift is too small. St. Luke’s response to date is $70,349.50; 91% of our parish target of $76,933.70. Donations clearly marked “Archbishop’s Fund Drive”, can be dropped in the collection. PETER’SPENCECOLLECTION

Next week our parish will participate in the Peter’s Pence Collection for the Works of the Holy Father. The collection enables the Holy Father to respond to requests for emergency funds from the most disadvantaged throughout the world. This special appeal is an opportunity to demonstrate justice and kindness to our brothers and sisters in need. Please pray for the Holy Father’s works and contribute generously to the appeal.

Routine Summer Months Church Building Closing Time:Church doors will be routinely locked around 7:00 p.m. for the summer. Parishioners wishing to pray and scheduled group meetings after 7:00 p.m. can call the parish office, 426-1733, to arrange for doors to remain open. If a conflict arises with a locked door, parishioners can go to the Jansen Center for assistance.

Pastoral Associate for Parish Administration – Search Begins:With Fr. Geoff’s reassignment, Fr. Terry will begin a search to fill to vacant business manager position opened in July 2004. Over the past year, Fr. Terry has worked interim in administration matters for budget reasons. Position responsibilities will include parish and school plant and grounds management, budgeting, routine administrative and equipment support services, and administrative staff supervision and office operations. Parishioners are asked to remember the search effort in prayer.

Pastoral Associate for Music and Liturgy - Ms. Terry Wenninger Begins Work: Saint Luke welcomes Terry Wenninger to the parish staff on June 13. As noted in previous bulletins, Terry comes to Beavercreek from previous parish work in Erlanger, KY, and parishes in Cincinnati and Sharonville, OH. Besides her principal musician and choral director duties, Terry’s ministry will also involve her in liturgy duties. Please give Terry a warm parish welcome.

Parish Opening – Calvary Cemetery Association Trustee: St. Luke is entitled to representation on the Calvary Cemetery Board of Trustees. The term of appointment is for two years beginning July 1, 2005. To be eligible, a parishioner must be an owner of two or more cemetery lots. Formation of an Outdoor Environment Committee: Volunteer for a new parish group! Parishioners are aware of the fine indoor decor efforts (wall hangings and floral arrangements) in the gathering and worship spaces by members of an arts and environment committee. Fr. Terry would like to see if another parish group could do something similar for the wider outdoor space on parish grounds. Background and/or interest in landscaping, gardening, and general outdoors ‘green-thumb’ knowledge would be helpful. Committee members would offer guidance in developing both short and long range efforts on parish property as well as offer physical labor in seasonal plantings and maintenance. An information meeting is planned for Thursday, June 23rd at 7:00pm in Kramer Hall. Call Fr. SVDP THANK YOU – St. Luke School & PSR Families

Another year has rolled around and it is time to thank St. Luke School and PSR families for all your wonderful help this past school year. Each month you donated food for the St. James/Ressurection Food Pantry. At Christmas you sent new and gently used toys to be given to needy families on the west side of Dayton. On different occasions, clothing was given to us for families needing hats, gloves, etc. Many lives have been touched because of your generosity and love of our fellow brothers and sisters. Your St. Vincent de Paul Society truly appreciates all that you do for those in need. ~Barb Zawila

SVDP NEEDS YOUR HELP

St. Luke’s St. Vincent de Paul is in need of people to pick up the Meal-a-Month food collection each first Monday of the month and deliver it to the St. James/Resurrection Pantry inside the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store on Edwin C. Moses Blvd. (This is right down the street from the old St. Elizabeth’s Hospital) We are also in need of people to pick up furniture that is donated to help single moms with children who are coming out of violence shelters. Some furniture will be taken directly to their homes or brought to my home for future delivery. If anyone has some free time and would like to help, please call Barb Zawila at 429-2887.

EDUCATION COMMISSION INVITES YOU, YOUR IDEAS, AND YOUR DESSERTS: A Dessert Potluck is being sponsored by the St. Luke Education Commission on June 21, 2005. Please join us at Rotary Park, the shelter by the playground, at 6:45 pm, with a prompt start at 7:00 pm. We are holding an open discussion about how to take the good that we have in PSR and St Luke School education and make it even better. 50 Years and Growing

The 50th Anniversary Committee will be selling a 50th Anniversary Ornament at the Parish Picnic on June 26th, 2005. Mark this date for food, music, games, Bingo, balloons, and Anniversary Ornaments.

FOURTH OF JULY FLOAT – ST. LUKE 50TH

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, St Luke Parish will enter a float in the annual Beavercreek 4th of July parade. The parade will travel East on Dayton-Xenia Road starting near Kroger’s and ending at the Beavercreek High School. The parade will be at 6:00 PM on July 4, 2005. The float committee is actively preparing the float to participate in the parade and we are also looking for volunteers from the various ministries at St. Luke to walk with the float. If you would like to participate in construction or participate as part of the St. Luke ministry representatives on the night of the parade, contact Joe Von Holle at 427-0369 or Teresa Best at 429-7772 as soon as possible. Otherwise, just come out and cheer on your parish family. See you at the parade!

Volunteers are needed with various aspects of the parish picnic including set-up, clean-up, serving food, running games for children, youth, and adults, among other things. You will only be asked to sign up for a particular time slot and should have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the rest of the picnic. If you want to help, please contact the parish office at 426-1733. If you have trouble getting through try calling the Jansen Center at 426-5656. Thank you for helping to make the parish picnic a great time for all!

U.D. Flyers Girls Summer Basketball Camps Registration: U.D. Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Jim Jabir, will conduct four summer camps for area girls. Scrip Sunday for July will be changed to the last week in June. Certificates will be available the week-end of June 25th & 26th. Please stop by in Kramer Hall to make your purchases. The Scrip Committee would also like to thank all who have purchased Scrip Certificates. This is an easy way to support St. Luke. The Kroger Scrip Card program has been very successful! Please continue to “reload” your Kroger cards. St. Luke receives 4% of every amount you place on your card. If you do not have a Kroger card yet, please purchase one soon. We also will be selling Lofino’s gift certificates as well as many restaurant and retail store gift cards. On Wednesday, July 6 nationally renowned speaker Mr. Jack Jezreel, M.Div. will present a workshop on the JustFaith program at St. Luke Parish from 6:30 – 9:30 PM at the Parish Center (located behind the school). HIGH SCHOOL Y.M. CONTINUES!

Our high school youth ministry continues throughout the summer! We do not meet on holiday weekends like Father’s Day, but will continue from 7-9 p.m. for fun, fellowship, and an exploration of the Old Testament. Participants are challenged to make a commitment to a Bible reading plan of their choosing and we will learn more about the Scriptures and answer questions that arise through your reading. We also take time each week for pool, air hockey, ultimate frisbee, basketball, cards, and other fun activities. Join us after the parish picnic for a trip to Friendly’s, Ritter’s, or Regal Cinema (place to be decided on Sunday night, June 12th).

CROSS TRAINING JR. HIGH CAMP

Incoming 7th through 9th grade youth are invited to a camp of extreme faith, fun, and friendships! Cross Training will be held at St. Luke and offers an Intentionally Christian Environment in which youth learn to live their faith

in daily life while having fun! We will build friendships amongst all 7th to 9th graders of the parish, host a senior citizen appreciation luncheon, volunteer at nursing homes and children’s centers, and have fun together canoeing, mini-golfing, go-cart riding, swimming, and going to King’s Island! The week concludes with a pool party and family potluck cookout. Small groups will plan and lead daily opening and closing prayers and we will practice our faith in the midst of whatever activity we engage in. Registration forms are available in Kramer Hall and Jansen Center. The first 12 registrants will be entered in a drawing for a 50% discount off the camp fees, so return your forms today! We are in need of a camp director (college-age student), high school counselors, and a few more adults. Mark your calendars for the camp and contact Jeffrey Davis to volunteer.

JR. HIGH AMUSEMENT PARK TRIPS

The usual King’s Island trip is being replaced this year with the Jr. High Camp, which includes a trip to King’s Island. So if you are currently in 6th or 7th grade, watch for registration information for the Jr. High Camp. If you are in 8th grade, you are welcome to join us for a trip to Cedar Point with Dayton Area Youth Ministries on June 21st! Registrations are due by June 14th!

THE HARVEST IS PLENTY, BUT THE WORKERS ARE FEW

We have been blessed with many outstanding volunteer leaders in our youth ministries, but there are many students we have not yet reached. Please pray that the Lord will send workers for the harvest and take some time to pray about whether God is calling you to help connect with each youth in our parish, empower them to live as disciples of Christ as they grow in faith and service, and to become an active part of the parish community. These are the goals of our youth ministry and we cannot meet them without your help! We need youth and adults to plan and lead service activities, fun evangelization events, faith formation sessions, worship music, small discipleship groups, and other ministries to reach the varied interests and time restraints of about 630 7th-12th grade youth of our parish. Come and see the blessings and rewards of working with young people through youth ministry!
