We Don T Just Teach Recovery. We Live It

Mental Health Association in Greensboro

We don’t just teach recovery. We live it.

We are a small nonprofit agency that offers free mental health services. Most of our staff have experienced mental health challenges at some point in our lives. We use the knowledge we’ve gained to help others.

We follow the recovery model, which means that we

•are run by and for peers

•emphasize strengths, not diagnoses

•offer a judgment-free environment

•understand that recovery is a journey,
not a destination

Note: We do not offer clinical services such as psychotherapy and psychiatric appointments. We do, however, help clients find mental health providers and resources.

What is PeerSupport?

Information on Peer Support Services

Peer Support is a system of giving and receiving support, information, and guidance, founded on the key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement. It’s about understanding another’s situation empathically through the shared experience of emotional and psychological pain.

While it is not based on psychiatric models or diagnostic criteria and is not intended to replace any existing mental health services, it does provide an opportunity to enrich the provision of mental health services through the direct participation and expertise of peers.

Statistics demonstrate that participation in our peer support services and support groups has been effective in reducing the need for repeat hospitalizations and in reducing the severity of psychiatric symptoms, as peers learn appropriate strategies for maintaining their psychological well-being and coping with their symptoms.

Many people find it comforting to know that everyone on our staff has learned to live with a mental diagnosis themselves so we truly understand what our peers go through. We are passionate about recovery and the work that we do each day. All services are provided absolutely free of charge.

•Peers will be matched with a Certified Peer

Support Specialist with a similar life experience.

•Sessions will be scheduled for a

mutually convenient time over a six-

eight weekperiod.

•Participants must be 18 years or older.

•All sessions are confidential.

•Orientation REQUIRED.
