Ways to Learn my Word Wall Words

1. Play My Pile, Your Pile

* Write each word on an index card.

* Show the student the card.

* If the student reads the word in a timely manner

and correctly, the student gets to keep the card.

* If the student does not read the word in a timely

manner or reads the word incorrectly, you get to

keep the card. The player with the most cards,

wins the game.

  • Add the new word wall words for each week to your deck so that each week the students are reviewing all of their word wall words 

2. Memory

* Write each word on 2 separate index cards.

* Place the index cards in one big pile and shuffle

the cards.

* Place all the cards face down in a large area.

* First player picks up two cards and reads the

words. If the words are the same and the player

is able to read the word, that player keeps the

cards. If the words are not the same the player

puts the cards back in the same spots face down.

  • The player with the most cards at the end, WINS 

3. Bubble Letters

Write your words in bubble letters. After you write your words, color your words with a crayon.

4. Colored Vowels

Write each of your words. You will need a crayon. Trace over the vowels in each word with your crayon.

5. Consonant Circle

Write each word. Then go back and circle all of the consonants in your words.

6. “Spelling Bee”

Draw and outdoor picture. Then draw a bee for each word. Then write the words inside of the “spelling” bees.

7. Shape Spelling

Write each word. Then trace around the word to make a shape.

8. Colorful Words

Write each of your words. Write each letter using a different colored crayon.

9. Paint your Words

Use paint and paint brush to write your words.

10. Playdoh Words

Use playdoh to make the letters needed to spell your words.

11. Type your words

Type your words three times each on the computer.

The more your child practices reading and writing their word wall words, the quicker their reading and writing will develop.
