Under the aegis of theAkal College Council, Gursagar Mastuana Sahib, Sangrur, the college organised a seminar to mark the Gurtagaddi Diwas. The Sikh Research Project’s Director, Prof. Jagdish Singh was invited by Principal of the college, S. Amar Singh for delivering a lecture in the campus on “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji di Roohaniyat” (The Spirituality of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) on 23.10.08.

Prof. Jagdish Singh said that right from the dawn of the civilization of man, he has had spiritual quest and all religions of the world offer some degree of spiritual support to man. Scriptures of various religions are fountainheads of spirituality and the followers of these find solace in these. However, Guru Granth Sahib by revealing full glory of the “Divine Word” to man’s heart has taken the process of revelation to its climax. As such, Sikhism is the religion for the seekers of all the religions.

Among others the lecture was attended by S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Member of Indian Parliament. Students’ response to the lecture was very encouraging. Throughout the lecture, the faculty and students remained deeply engrossed. In the informal chat that followed, the participants were made aware about the work that the UNITED SIKHS Research Project and UNITED SIKHS were doing at local and international level. They were also made aware of the fact that the current curricula of the educational institutes lacked a spiritual approach to different subjects of study and how this hampers a complete flowering of the soul of the student or researcher.
