People visit with their carers (family or paid). Carers sign a bookings form agreeing that they are fully responsible for the welfare of the person they are supporting. This includes supporting the person in respect of their safety, safeguarding and behaviour. Copies of the bookings form and volunteers form are available from the resource centre. The first visit is free, so that people can decide if they would enjoy coming to the Centre, and their carers can see if it would be a suitable place to visit.

The resource centre is Health & Safety approved by Nottinghamshire County Council, and has annual inspections by the Fire Service. General risk assessments are available in paper form at the Centre for reading, or they can be emailed, for organisations and individual carers to use to write their own person-specific assessments.

The resource centre has been ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) checked for the soft play area and holds a low risk certificate from ROSPA.

Springs Nottingham has been awarded the Credability Mark of Quality (quality and assurance for the social care market).

The resource centre has received advice from Food Hygiene, Nottinghamshire County Council, but does not need to register with Food Hygiene because food is not prepared on a commercial basis. However the kitchen has been designed to meet commercial specifications. At the moment visitors to the centre eat what they cook, or take it home. People can bring their lunch with them to eat in the dining area, or eat the food they have cooked that day (biscuits, cakes etc).

The cost is £3.50 per session standard rate, £2.50 per session family carers’ rate. This may be increased in the future, in line with the increasing range of activities on offer.

Springs Nottingham employs a part-time Resource Centre Co-ordinator.The Resource Centre is staffed by volunteers. Volunteers agree to DBS checks &/or supplying references as appropriate to their role. Volunteers receive basic training. There is a first aider available when the centre is open.

Regular checks are in place including opening and closing checks, equipment checks, and annual inspections. Springs Nottingham has agreed emergency procedures and security with the local police.
