Nature Conservancy Director Discusses Hydrofracking
at Valley Manor Seminar

Rochester, NY – Jim Howe, Executive Director of the Western and Central New York Chapters ofThe Nature Conservancy will discuss the issues and controversy surrounding hydraulic fracturing at a community seminar on Monday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Valley Manor Apartments on East Avenue.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the Allyn’s Creek Garden Club, a regional not-for-profit organization dedicated to horticultural development and ecological protection. Founded in 1928, Allyn’s Creek is an active fifty-member community club whose projects include: establishing and maintaining gardens at two historic homesteads in the Town of Brighton, planting trees to buffer highway intersections, aiding in the purchase of land for the Braddock Bay Bird Observatory, and the plantings for the Butterfly Garden at the Strong National Museum of Play.

The event’s moderator, Jim Howe, leads the Nature Conservancy Chapter's efforts to protect New York's forests, freshwater, and natural communities. Jim has a passion for nature and a broad expertise in public policy and natural resources. He serves as an advisor to other conservation groups and is co-author of Balancing Nature and Commerce in Gateway Communities, which proposes community solutions that promote economic growth without compromising ecological responsibility.

“Valley Manor is pleased to offer community forums of this caliber”, says Gail Reeves, the manager of resident services. “Our residents are lifelong activists. They have been the “movers and the shakers” in our community, and maintain a keen interest in the story behind the current headlines. We are eager to hear Mr. Howe’s informed perspective on hydrofracking and its impact on our region.”

The seminar will be held in the Valley Manor auditorium at 1570 East Avenue.
