Suicide is a rising epidemic in the United States. The statistics grow larger each year and leave many Americans wondering why people would take their own lives? From bullying in school and work places to natural causes like depression can affect one’s mental health; with no outlet, it can leave people with feeling hopeless.

With shows like “13 Reasons Why”, it can bring awareness of someone suffering but can have a negative effect at the same time. Suicide is not romantic, you don’t get to “wake back up” and talk to your loved ones ever again. Ending your life means never seeing your loved ones again, eating your favorite dessert, nor getting the chance to see what the future holds for you.

Nearly 30,000 people commit suicide each year, and for the United States the rates are the highest in the spring time. Suicide has been knows to effect six other meaning these people are left broken emotionally, and end up having survivors guilt. If you or someone you know has been effected by a suicide there are support groups and hotlines that you can call to ensure they get the help they need.

About 2/3 of people who commit suicide suffered from depression. Depression can sometimes be genetic or situational depending on the person. When left untreated for depression, suicide can be an outcome. There are hotlines that have people on call 24/7 to help with a person in need. They’re free and 100% confidential.

Believe or not, 79% of suicides are committed by males. The stigma of men don’t cry or men can’t hurt isn’t true. Everyone has hurts, habits, and hang-ups weighing them down, so it’s important to give everyone a safe environment where they can ask for help.
