A RESOLUTION expressing support for President George W. Bush, the United States Armed Forces, and all those who are sacrificing for their country at this time.

WHEREAS, the American spirit has always been defined by the sacrifice, honor, and valor of this country's brothers and sisters in arms and the men and women supporting their efforts; and

WHEREAS, American values are in constant display by these men and women who give of themselves through diligent service; and

WHEREAS, the American people have the greatest pride and confidence in President George W. Bush, the Armed Forces of the United States, and the civilian personnel supporting them; and

WHEREAS, the United States has been on heightened alert since the attacks of September 11, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Iraq remains in material breach of the relevant United Nations resolutions; and

WHEREAS, the security of the United States is dependent upon a regime change in the country of Iraq; and

WHEREAS, the unfettered resolve of President George W. Bush and the steadfast actions of United States service men and women during these uncertain times bring forth the hope of democracy through the liberation of the Iraqi people; and

WHEREAS, even now the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines of the United States Armed Forces are being called upon to protect American liberty and to provide for the security of this nation and the world; and

WHEREAS, the families of our brave freedom fighters are also sacrificing for their country with noble spirit and full heart;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky expresses unequivocal support to the President as Commander-in-Chief for his firm leadership and decisive action in the conduct of military operations in Iraq as part of the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.

Section 2. The Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky recognizes the steady courage and unfailing dedication of our troops and the civilian personnel supporting them for their efforts in protecting American liberty and security during these uncertain times.

Section 3. The Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky expresses its sincerest gratitude for the service and loyalty of these individuals and wishes Godspeed in the accomplishment of the tasks before them.

Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense, 1000 Defense Pentagon, Washington, DC 20301-1000, Major General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY 42223-5627, Major General Terry L.
