A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Bob Heleringer, our friend and colleague, upon the occasion of his imminent retirement from the Kentucky General Assembly.

WHEREAS, when we reflect upon the contributions Bob Heleringer has tirelessly given to the citizens of this great Commonwealth throughout his career as a public servant, we are reminded that ethics and integrity have played a large part toward his achievement as an outstanding member of the Kentucky General Assembly, and his accomplishments should serve as an example for those who succeed him; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heleringer has represented his constituents from the thirty-third Representative District with pride and honesty since 1980, and during his tenure with the Kentucky General Assembly, he has demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership, always adhering to high moral principles and practices, and concentrating much of his time into championing complicated causes of the mentally handicapped and contributing to the enhancement of their quality of life; he has continually supported laws against abortion and capital punishment, has opposed laws banning flag burning, and is an advocate of freedom of speech; and

WHEREAS, his diverse views make it difficult for him to be labeled as either a conservative or a liberal, and as an impassioned orator, he stands first in protecting our values and freedoms, in defending the sanctity of our homes, and exulting in the symbolisms of this great nation;

WHEREAS, as a member of the House of Representatives, Bob Heleringer has faithfully served as vice-chairman of the Committee on Appropriations and Revenue, and has also served on the Committee on Judiciary (criminal and civil), the Committee on Health and Welfare, the Committee on Cities, and the Committee on Natural Resources and Environment; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heleringer is a dedicated family man, and the devoted husband of Cindy Heleringer; and he is the loving father of two daughters, Sarah, a junior at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and Ann, a freshman at the University of Alabama; and two sons, Tommy, a senior at Trinity High School, and Philip, a seventh grader at St. Aloysius; and

WHEREAS, in this hallowed chamber, we have witnessed both the eloquence of Bob Heleringer's debates and the fervor he exudes, as well as the entertaining dry wit he has expressed to us so often during these past twenty-two years, and we will not forget the countless times he has "peered over" his glasses, and teased, chastised, and enlightened us, while, at the same time, always remaining our friend; and

WHEREAS, in view of the fact that the very distinguished gentleman from the thirty-third Representative District will be retiring, we are reminded that life is composed of two parts: that which is past, and that which is to come--a prologue; and if the past sets the example for the future, Bob Heleringer, our friend and colleague, can be assured of continuing a full and meaningful career outside this legislative chamber;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
