UNIVERSITY SEARCH TRIP

On Friday 3rd March our Year 12 students attended a University Search Event at the Emirates Stadium in London. The purpose of the event was to help students discover which university or apprenticeship might be right for them.

There was an opportunity to speak to representatives from numerous universities including those from Russell Group, red brick and modern institutions. Each of the universities had their own exhibition stands and had plenty of representatives on hand to give help and advice, many also gave away goodie bags along with the literature! An exhibition about studying abroad was available, showcasing many of the world’s best universities’ that offer this opportunity. Information concerning gap years and volunteering were also offered to students. All of the exhibitions rooms were set out overlooking the football pitch and there were plenty of places to sit and relax and purchase food and drink after gathering all of the information. The event was very popular with many schools attending from all over London and the surrounding areas.

Another exhibition covered Apprenticeships for those students who did not want to go on to university. This featured many of the UK’s top employers such as BAE Systems and Boeing, once again there were friendly and helpful representatives from each company available to offer advice.

There were several seminars that were available for students to attend from university experts regarding Student Finance, UCAS and how to prepare a personal statement together with seminars about specific subject areas.. These were held in theatre style rooms. Many of our students didn’t have time to visit these. We already

know that we need a full day there next year!

Overall our students found the event informative and helpful, some of them have given their view of the day,

RiannanAyley…

‘I found it really helpful as I discovered options that I didn't realise were available, it helped me to start thinking about what path I want to take, as we were able to speak to people from different universities and apprenticeships which helped as they could give more information which helped us to start thinking about the choices and the paths we may take. Overall it was a really good experience and we would love to do it again.’

Shanae Hinds….

‘I thought it was really helpful to discover all the different routes you can take after sixth form, for example I am now am considering apprenticeships as I found out some information about it by talking to the representatives thereandI think it will be more suited to me. As well as the amount of information given out by universities this was also good as it helps to be able to see what available courses there are and gives information on locations and the price of things. Overall it was good but I wasn't able to go to all of the talks as it wasn't clearly set out where they were.’ This will be fed back to the event organiser.

Esther Bamuyi…

‘ I found the Uni search day very helpful as I have gained insight into what uni’s expect from me and I have gotten more information of the general overview of the course I want to study. I am more confident in the field I wish to pursue in the future’

We look forward to another visit next year and have already booked to go again in September.
