Assessment title: / Viva voce ‘Safe transfer of the critically ill woman’
Submission/ Assessment date and time: / Final date to be confirmed but the exam will take place in week 16. A viva schedule will be posted on Blackboard in week 10. The assessments will run between 10 – 16.00hrs.

Knowledge and Understanding
1.  Critically evaluate and implement measures to meet the cultural, sociological, physiological and psychological needs of the women and their families, during critical illness.
2.  Demonstrate systematic knowledge of the relevant physiology and pathophysiology when performing specific clinical skills related to the care of women during critical illness.
3.  Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving, leadership skills and a multidisciplinary team philosophy in the approach to care provision for women who become critically ill.
Transferable/Key Skills and other Attributes
1.  Demonstrate a problem solving approach through the viva, of the impact of influences and policy drivers on current practice.
2.  Demonstrate that you understand how to apply the evidence documented in the reflective clinical portfolio.
3.  Demonstrate your ability to articulate care planning using appropriate professional and medical terminology
Weighting within module: / This assessment is worth 40% of the overall module mark.
Task details and instructions: / You should…
·  Provide a 20 minute oral presentation of the planning and care required for a critically ill woman transferring between different level care settings i.e. from level 2 up to level 3 or from level 3 down to level 2.
·  The scenario will be unseen but you will be given 10 minutes writing time to plan your answer immediately prior to the oral examination. These notes may be taken into the examination.
·  Be able to answer questions at the end of the presentation about different aspects of your care and interventions.
·  Provide integrate evidence to support the aims and plan of care.
·  Expect to be examined by a lecturer from the module and a clinician from practice. A moderator may be in attendance during the examination. The moderator will be observing the examiners for fairness and equity between students. If in attendance the moderator will not be assessing your performance.
·  You will not be expected to demonstrate clinical skills, the assessment is oral but not a practical examination.
Word count/ duration (if applicable) / Your viva will last 20 minutes. At 15 minutes you will be advised that there are 5 minutes remaining and to draw the presentation to a close for questioning. The examiners will not interrupt your presentation before 15 minutes but it is important that you are prepared for some questions at the end of the viva.

·  Knowledge and understanding of the key skills/competencies required for the safe transfer of critically ill women.
·  Professional and women centred approach to care using appropriate medical terminology/language.
·  Incorporation of evidence to support your care planning and interventions.
·  All elements are essential for a pass to be awarded
·  The pass mark is 50%

·  Two weeks after the viva.
·  Marks will be available on Blackboard. You will need to log into the full site to access the written feedback. The mark and feedback will be released at 2pm.

·  There will be an opportunity to practice for the viva during the module. You will be able to observe a mock viva and practise part of their draft oral presentation to the group for peer to peer and instructor feedback during the module (exact date to be arranged).
