Training for learning and teaching staff.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing and Psychological Services Teams have liaised with a number of local and National organisations to bring together this exciting programme of seminars. The seminars aim to develop staff understanding about Mental Health issues andpromote confidence to support emotional wellbeing and positive mental health to ensure the best outcomes for young people. They compliment the work of both teams and wider CEC agendas inc GIRFEC and CfE. Seminarswill explore underlying aggravating factors which can lead to specific mental health concerns,the potential physical and behavioural indicators as well as highlight and discuss appropriate support for thoseaffected.

CF2101 Eating Disorders

Thisseminarwill be delivered by Beat’s professional trainers alongside Fiona Duffy, a localclinician from Lothian CAMHS and Adult Services.Beat provides helplines, online support and a network of UK-wide self-help groups to help adults and young people in the UK beat their eatingdisorders.

The seminar will be delivered by staff from Penumbra’s Edinburgh Self Harm Project, which offers confidential support to individuals who self harm as well as responding to the needs of loved ones and professionals supporting them.

CF2112: Emotional Attachments and Developmental Vulnerabilities: The importance of children’s early experiences for mental health

Delivered by DrJoanna Williams, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, this seminar takes a more theoretical approach to exploring the impact of early childhood emotional attachments on mental health whilst still considering the practical implications for working with children and young people with attachment difficulties.
