Where will my child be living for the two weeks in China?

During the first week of traveling (Beijing and Xi’an), students will stay in four-star hotels. The second week students will meet and stay with their Chinese host families and interact with Chinese students. Here they will learn about Chinese family traditions, Chinese schools, and everyday life in China. The host families are all screened and interviewed prior to approval and participation. Each student will have an individual bedroom and each host home has at least two bathrooms. The host family will treat your child like a part of their own family the whole time they are there.

Why should I participate?

The activities in this unique summer program are all carefully reviewed and chosen to be enjoyable, educational, and beneficial overall to the students. We want each student to go to China and be immersed in China’s diversity, ancient traditions, culture, and modern society. The best way to learn something new and have a lasting effect is through engagement and hands-on experience.

Your child’s safety and overall well-being are our utmost priority. RTP International Cultural Exchange has been fostering exchange programs between China and the U.S.for many years, and for the past six Durham’s Camelot Academy and CFS have partnered with RTP ICE to receive students from Chengdu as part of a joint summer program. Some of those visitors to Durham will be hosting trip participants this summer! Although this particular trip is new, RTP ICE has been facilitating similar experiences in China for Americans.

While RTP ICE is the organizer of this trip, Carolina Friends School, with a decades-long history of domestic and international educational travel, is glad to provide support with our Summer Programs CampInTouch registration process.

Our mission is to broaden a child’s mind through diversity and travel, fostering an appreciation of other cultures besides their own. We believe that cultural exchange is imperative in today’s globalized world. Exposing a child to a different country, culture, language, food, arts, and traditions gives the child a better understanding of and respect forthe differences of others, thus fulfilling CFS’ mission statement: …we teach our children that it is possible to change the world.
