Two African Nations

Lesotho
The kingdom of Lesotho, formerly Basutoland, is located in South Africa. In fact it is bordered on all sides by the country of South Africa. That is, it is completely encircled by South Africa.
Lesotho is one of only three nations in the world to be completely encircled by a single country—the others are San Marino and Vatican City (both surrounded by Italy).
Lesotho has been an independent country since 1966; however, it still relies on South Africa for economic assistance. It is a very mountainous country with a total area of just over 30,000 sqkm. The capital, and largest city, is Maseru.
The climate is mild, with hot summer days in the lowlands relieved by cool nights. Winter can be cold, particularly in the mountains, and heavy snows occasionally occur.
The population is around 2.2 million; almost all are black Africans (mostly Basotho). Small communities of Europeans and Asians live there too. The major source of wealth is livestock raised in the country’s grazing land. / Togo
Togo, a small country in West Africa, is bordered on the north by Burkina Faso, on the east by Benin, and on the west by Ghana. To the south is the Atlantic Ocean.
The country has an area of just under 57,000 square kilometers. Lome, the largest city, is the capital.
The climate of Togo is tropical; the average temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. There are actually two rainy seasons in the south
Togo’s animal life is typical of West Africa. Crocodiles, hippopotamuses, and a great variety of fish live in the Oti River. Duikers (small African antelopes), monkeys, and several species of snakes roam the forest areas, and baboons, antelopes, lions, and elephants are found in the northern areas.
The population of Togo is about 6 million, mostly farmers and herders living in small villages. Many different ethnic groups make up Togo’s population.
French is the official language, but other African languages are spoken as well.
