The book Sometimes I’m Bombaloo by Yumi Heo.

Drawing paper, crayons

Promethean board

ACTIVITY:

Before reading the book, ask students about what makes them mad or lose their temper. Read the book Sometimes I’m Bombaloo by Yumi Heo. Ask students: what do you look like when you are mad? When you are “Bombaloo?” Make a list on the board: What can/should you do when you become “Bomblaoo”? Did the main character use any of these solutions? What did she do?

Fold a piece of drawing paper in half the hamburger way(Landscape). On the left side, draw what your face looks like when you are happy. On the right side of the paper, draw what you look like when you are “Bombaloo.”

EVALUATION:

Pre/post-test: What do you do when you get mad or loose your temper?

How did the students change as a result of this lesson? Students will demonstrate strategies to deal with getting mad and losing their temper.

Follow-ups: Promethean Flip Chart on feelings

Read the book No, David! to the class. Ask What text-to-text connections they can make. Ask if they have any text-to-self or text-to-world connections they would like to share.
