To the Business and Professional Women of the State of Kentucky

During the months of January and February 1921, a call was sent out over the state by Miss Nora Kirch of Louisville, who was then State National Vice President of Kentucky. The Business and Professional women of the State were called to meet in Louisville, with Miss Lena Madesin Phillips, of New York City, who was then Executive Secretary of the National Federation of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs. The first meeting was held on March 29, 1921. The second was held May 5 and 6, 1921. The purpose of the meetings was to form a State organization.

Attending the meetings were:

Miss Lena Madesin Phillips, of New York City

Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Lexington

Mrs. Maud Cossar, of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Louisville

Miss Nora Kirch, State National Vice President for Kentucky

Miss Ann I. Baker, of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Paducah

Miss Elizabeth McMakin, of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Louisville

Miss Bain, of the "Y" Business and Professional Women's Club of Lexington.

Miss Phillips made an exhaustive talk urging the necessity of a State organization and while assembled in one of the parlors of the Seelbach Hotel on the morning of March 5, 1921, it was decided by the seven women present that the Kentucky State Federation be organized. By common consent of those present, the following were selected as officers:

Miss Ann I. Baker, President

Mrs. Maud Cossar, State Vice President

Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, Secretary

Miss Elizabeth McMakin, Treasurer

It was decided that the main work in the State was to go out and form new clubs. The State at that time having two clubs in Lexington, two in Louisville, one in Paducah. The two clubs in Lexington, one connected with the YMCA, which is the oldest club in the State, having been formed before the National organization was formed, and the other belonging to the Business and Professional Women of the city.

The Louisville clubs, one being the Altrusa Club, and the other being formed by the Business and Professional Women of the city.

The Paducah Business and Professional Women's Club had been formed because of the apparent necessity of such a club.

These five clubs immediately affiliated with the State and National organizations.

This meeting adjourned to hold its first State meeting in May 1922 in Louisville, Kentucky.
