RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To liaise with the Welfare Coordinator and the Team Managers (as required) prior to and during the Sainsbury’s UK School Games to ensure the welfare of competitors throughout the event
  • To have read and be familiar with the content and procedures regarding the UK School Games Welfare Plan
  • To support all participating athletes at the Sainsbury’s UK School Games to achieve their sporting aims
  • Ensure an understanding and awareness of all British Fencing safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures
  • Pass on all concerns that may arise In line with the UK School Games Welfare Plan
  • Appropriately challenge those who do not comply with the UK School Games Welfare Plan
  • Attend any additional meetings as and when required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Key skills, experience and qualifications required

  • Ideally, to have a counselling qualification, be a teacher, social care worker, police officer or hold similar professional qualification or have experience of safeguarding and child protection work within a sports setting within the last 5 years Understand the implications of protecting children and young people at the Sainsbury’s UK School Games
  • Able to communicate with children and young people
  • Willing toobtain an enhancedBritish Fencing CRB Disclosure, or have such disclosure obtained within the last 2 years
  • Have attended the sports coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop (SPC1 or SPC2) within the last 3 years
  • Willing to undertake any training considered appropriate to the post
  • Have an understanding of the issues affecting children and young people and the sensitive way in which these issues must be managed
  • Understanding and appreciation of the need to respect confidentiality & to appropriately pass on all concerns that may arise
  • Able to follow procedures and work closely with the Welfare Coordinator and the welfare team at the UK School Games
  • Willing to agree to abide by the British Fencing code of conduct (available online at

The Welfare Officer will be accommodated in the Athlete’s Village for the duration of the Sainsbury’s UK School Games.
