Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is inventing the future of health care with a focus on trauma, cardiac, stroke, high-risk pregnancy and newborns and cancer. Sunnybrook Foundation exists to raise the awareness and funds required to ensure that Sunnybrook achieves its mission.

The Manager, Donor Relations provides the leadership and business acumen required to pursue excellence in service for staff and donors, with one ultimate goal - grow revenue in order to save and transform lives. Assisting with the development of processes, policies and business procedures; the Manager, Donor Relations is responsible for efficient and accurate data entry, timely and a high quality donor experience and acts as the liaison with all Foundation departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Donor Relations team to reach organization and department goals
  • Under the guidance of the Director, Donor Base Development, evaluate business processes ensuring organizational efficiency including determining ROI
  • Manage staff team, including performance management, coaching and fostering staff development
  • Ensure the donation experience is optimized through strong processes and high quality communications
  • Engage with all Foundation teams to provide fulfillment services and direction support to enhance overall fundraising success
  • Develop data entry strategies to support Foundation reporting and monitor metrics for Donor Relations
  • Manage departmental budget including financial reporting and analysis
  • Work closely with senior members of other departments to ensure alignment and integration with business goals and strategies
  • Manage departmental partnerships with agencies and vendors
  • Create strategies, and documentation for risk mitigation and contingency planning
  • Provide input into organizational data strategy and document retention strategy
  • Manage departmental coverage to ensure service levels are met at all times
  • Identify and coordinate effective training to meet staff and departmental needs

Skills and abilities required:

  • Excellent business sense and fundraising acumen
  • Fundamental understanding of database and data entry management practices
  • Proven planning ability to manage high and low volume periods while maintaining staff workloads
  • Strong results orientation with a past track record of process re-engineering
  • Creative thinker with a proven ability to conceive and drive new business opportunities
  • Ability to lead by example and achieve the desired results by supporting others
  • Demonstrates self-confidence, flexibility, initiative, perseverance and integrity
  • Professional presence with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Effective project manager with the ability to manage multiple priority projects over varying timelines

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years progressive experience, including managing staff, preferably in a major gift oriented charity
  • Significant experience in driving excellent customer service to donors and staff within a large complex organization
  • Proven strategic thinking and planning ability with the ability to evaluate and develop processes
  • Experience in leading teams and managing staff
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or CRM database management
  • University degree or equivalent experience

  • Full time, permanent
