General Description of Duties:

The Clinical Systems Project and Support Analyst is accountable to see that the goals set for clinical information systems as they pertain to the organization are met. Works closely with the clinicians, physicians and ITS staff to ensure integration of technology into the patient care process. Is responsible for the analysis, evaluation, development, implementation, support, updating and integrity of clinical systems. Serves as project manager for new clinical system installations, and upgrades. Coordinates education of all users and serves as a liaison to trans-disciplinary hospital committees.

Essential Job Functions include:

Project Planning, Clinical System Design, Priorities and Goals

  1. Works with clinicians from all departments, to identify areas where clinical information systems can effectively support and enhance their clinical process.
  1. Prepares plans for design, implementation, evaluation, modification and testing of clinical applications. Identifies and communicates resource needs effectively.
  1. Coordinates with Director of Clinical Systems, ITS coordinators and other departments, clinicians, physicians and ITS support staff to maximize use and benefit of clinical information systems.
  1. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practice, hospital policy, regulatory requirements and standards of practice within their assigned area of expertise. Works with inter-disciplinary staff to insure that clinical systems support compliance with these standards.

Education

  1. Designs, develops, and implements plans to meet staff and physician learning needs in a cooperative effort with education, ITS and applicable departments.
  1. Prepares educational materials, newsletters and other supportive documentation for users on an ongoing basis. Maintains current and accurate documentation for users. Participates in departmental meetings to provide ongoing education and assist in issue resolution.
  1. Evaluates and revises training programs collaboratively with the clinical departments to facilitate accomplishment of their training goals and to integrate a solution to their performance issues into the training of all clinical users.
Customer Service, Communication, Professionalism
  1. Serves as the primary contact and mentor, along with other members of the clinical systems group, for the super users across all departments.
  1. Assists ITS in the support of clinical users when appropriate. Assists clinicians in defining problems, resolves or escalates to appropriate resource in group, clinical department, ITS, or the vendor in a timely manner. May be asked to do after hours support during times of project implementation.
  1. Works with users to define system requirements for content (data elements) and successful integration into workflow. Additionally works with clinicians to design patient reports, on line reports, data capture, process and audit reports. Participates in the building of the application and reports utilizing database tools.
  1. Facilitates interdepartmental communications and acts as a liaison between the ITS department and other departments within the health system.
  1. Works closely with trans-disciplinary team members, vendors, hospital clinicians and physicians to understand needs, enhance application functionality, and to develop and test application and business processes. Participates in trans-disciplinary teams as the clinical information systems resource.
  1. Participates proactively in issue prevention and problem resolution through effective use of assessment, evaluation, planning and communication. Takes call on a rotating basis as necessary for after-hours user support.
  1. Ensures on-going timely information transfer to peers and management regarding project status, resource needs or issues.
  1. Maintains professional growth and development by actively seeking out new information regarding clinical systems software and hardware tools. Remains current with trends in healthcare technology and clinical practice through research and participation in educational activities. Maintains current license or certifications as appropriate.
  1. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Attainment of a baccalaureate level education in informatics, healthcare, business or a related field. Masters degree or equivalent experience in healthcare informatics strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to excellent quality patient care.
  • Healthcare experience of ten or more years desirable. Five or more years occurring in the acute or intensive care hospital setting.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, group process, organizational, and project management skills
  • Strong desire to enhance clinical practice with technology. Experience with re-engineering process and change theory helpful.
  • Previous experience in the selection, implementation, support, maintenance or training of clinical information systems is desirable.
