TIER 4 STUDENT VISA APPLICATIONINFORMATION - OUTSIDE UK

You can apply up to 3 months before the start of your course as shown on your CAS statement; we recommend you apply as early as possible.

All documents you submit need to be original – no copies or scans

  1. Funds – 10 points
  • The funds need to be in the account for 28 consecutive days
  • This must be the most recent bank statement (no older than 1 month)
  • The funds consist of the maintenance fund PLUS any remaining tuition fees
Maintenance - £1,015 per month of your courseup to a maximum of nine months (if your course lasts for nine months or more you will have to show £9,135)
If you are using your parents' funds: - 1 month parents’ bank statementshowing the required funds, your originalBirth Certificate showing yours and your parents' names - a letter from your parents signed and dated confirming they are sponsoring you. You cannot show funds in the account of any other relatives or friends.
Bank statements must bein English (or accompanied by an official translation) funds can be in your country's currency, please use: to convert funds into UK Sterling. You must provide a full bank statement which is stamped by the bank.
The bank statement must be a personal account and cannot be a company account. The funds must be held in an instant access account such as a current account or savings account. Bonds, shares and property deeds cannot be used instead.
Official Financial Sponsorship Letter (If you are sponsored by your Government or an officially recognised company.) If you are not sponsored for all your tuition fees and living costs of £9,135 then you will need to show the remaining funds in your bank account.
Dependantsof Tier 4 (General student)need to show £680 for every month of the Tier 4 Student’s leave up to a maximum of nine months (£6,120).

You will need to check that the details shown on your CAS statement are correct, this includes your name, date of birth, nationality and course details. Please contact: if you notice any errors.
•You will require the original qualifications/transcripts as stated on your CAS, this includes IELTS Certificate, transcripts or certificates of academic qualifications
•Valid ATAS Certificate (this will be shown as a requirement on your CAS)

BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) Collection
You will only be issued with a 30 day UK entry visa in your home country. When you arrive in the UK you will have 10 days to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). The BRP will show that you have valid leave to remain in the UK for the duration of your course.
IMPORTANT NOTE - TO ENSURE YOU COLLECT YOUR BRP FROM THE UNIVERSITY Please enter the code 2HE479 when making your visa application. The number must be entered on the Alternative Collection field on the BRP collection page on Visa4UK online form. Once you have entered this number click ‘Find’ and the address of the University of Portsmouth will be displayed. This will allow you to collect your BRP from the University during your international orientation and induction programme. If you do not enter this code you will be asked to collect your BRP from the local Post Office.
Visa Fees
  • The Tier 4 visa application £335 for a standard application
  • You will need to pay an additional £184 if you wish to use the Priority Visa Service (processing of application in 5 working days). Please Note: You cannot use this service if you have previously had a visa Refusal.
  • The NHS Immigration Health Surcharge is from £150 per person per year (£75 for 6 months). For example you would need to pay £525 if you are studying on a 3 year course to cover the 3 years of study and the additional 4 months given at the end of your visa

Frequently asked questions
My visa has been refused – what should I do? Please send a scanned copy of the visa refusal document to may be able to send you a new CAS, depending on the reason for refusal.
I have been sent a CAS, but I can no longer study at the University of Portsmouth – what should I do? Please email d let us know you are no longer coming. We will need to report this information to the Home Office. If you have already applied for a visa and this has been granted, the visa will be cancelled.
I have been sent a CAS but have made further tuition fee payments – what should I do? If you have not yet submitted your visa application please email let us know that you have paid more money. We can then update your CAS to show the new payments. We CANNOT do this if you have already submitted your visa application.
