Dear Families,

This week there are some special events:

-Friday,October 27th- Mass- Full uniform

This week our focus will be:

Math: We will be finishing Chapter 2, Number Patterns.

Reading: This week in Daily 5 Reading Workshop we will be starting our new unit all about exploring non-fiction.

Writing:In Writer’s Workshopwe will be starting our next writing unit, “Telling My Own & Others’ Stories.”

Spelling: The spelling words this week are

  • Short i: big, will, fill, this, pick, hid, ship, six, hill, wind, his, trick
  • Word Wall Sight Words: did, sit
  • Challenge Word: butterfly

A reminder, if a student gets all spelling words correct on the pre-test, they will not have to do the spelling worksheets in this packet; but I do suggest doing the challenge worksheets.

Religion: We will be continuing our unit “We Ask God’s Forgiveness”with chapter 6, “We Celebrate God’s Forgiveness”.

Social Studies: In Social Studies, we will continue tolearn about neighborhoods long ago.

Science: Our science question of the week will be “What’s the difference between a fox and a wolf?” Our caterpillars have turned into chrysalis and we are looking forward to watching them transform into butterflies.

This is the suggested homework schedule for the week based on lessons in class for the week.

Homework for the week:

*For all homework, please review all problems and confirm they are correct. If they are incorrect, please have your student correct the problem.

25 minutes of reading nightly, please have students fill out the reading log attached.Students can read aloud to parents, siblings/family members, or read silently; just reading for 25 minutes a day minimum. Please remember, a parent initials are also required on the reading logs.

Monday:Spelling Pages 154-155.

Tuesday:Practice Math Test.

Wednesday:Spelling Pages 156-157.

Thursday:Practice spelling test (paper provided) – After the practice test is corrected by the parent, have the student write out each word they missed 5 times on the back of the practice test.Reminder, no practice or spelling test for students who passed pre-test with 100%.

Challenge:A reminder these Challenge Worksheets are NOT required and only need to be done if you feel your child wants more challenging work.

Challenge Spelling:Say It a Different Way, Thinking About Time

Reminder Wednesday and Friday, we have PE, please make sure students wear appropriate shoes and if girls have long hair, it needs to be tied back.

Tuesdays are our library day, please make sure all library books are returned by then.
