How to Register a Recreation Team with LVR
Last Updated: 4/01/2012

INTRODUCTION

This tutorial explains how to register a Recreational team with LVR for the Fall soccer season – the process and the form to use. There are two processes depending on whether or not the team is a prior year team and is returning for the Fall or if the team is a newly formed team for play this Fall.

Coaches that need to access the Bonzi team administrative pages should refer to our team pages tutorial – this tutorial has no information about how to use the team pages.

  1. First things first – you will need to register to coach (or manage/assist) this Fall. Please see our tutorial “How to register as a coach” for information on registering. After you have registered, please login to your team page to see if you area already assigned (the registrar may have assumed that you would be returning and assigned you to this year’s team). You should see a link for last year’s team administrative page and this year’s page. If not, please send the appropriate registrar a short email note (see email contacts below).

Note:you will not be able to access the team administrative pages for the current year until you both register to coach and the registrar assigns you to this year’s team.

  1. The club expects you to contact each and every player on last year’s team to determine if they are registering for soccer this Fall and to encourage them to do so. Please contact them both by phone and email. You should have all the player contact information from last year, but you can log into the prior year’s team administrative page to double-check.

Note:Let them know that they should contact you if they are having problems registering (e.g., not sure what age group to use, how to do a “play up” registration) and to contact the club if they need their member login information and are unable to do the password lookup (or don’t receive an email after doing the lookup). It may be helpful to remind parents of this table as some may not realize that their child has been playing up.

  1. Contact any assistant coaches and/or your team manager from last year and have them also register to coach/manage Fall soccer. By doing so, you are ensuring that your helpers get the Washington State Patrol’s background check and RMA clearance. If you don’t have a PC with IE 5.5 or better, be sure that either your assistant(s) or team manager does so that one of you can access the team administrative pages.
  1. Download and print out the appropriate team registration form.

  1. Complete the team form, printing legibly and be sure to fill out each field. Note that we are requesting you to identify your registered assistants and team manager by their first name, phone number, and their Bonzi member account (that they used to register).

Note:you can also list the names of any players not on last year’s team that you know will berequesting placement on your team. This does not guarantee that they will be placed on your team, but will help the registrar know who the candidates are and to better predict the number of open roster positions.

  1. Any returning player who was registered on-line and paid by VISA will be auto-rostered to this year’s team (assuming they are not a play-up registration).
  1. Bring the completed team form to the club’s in-person registration event and hand it over to the appropriate registrar. The registrar will look over the form and may ask you for additional information (e.g., you accidentally left a required field blank). If it is not possible to be at the in-person registration event, please try to have an assistant or other parent hand deliver it. Email can be used as a means of last resort.

Note: Teams with players returning to that same team do not need to attach player forms to the team registration form. If you did not collect any forms from your player’s parents, you can email the completed team form to: .

NEW TEAMS – The registration of a new team with named players is accepted only at the U-7 level. All new teams forming at ages U-8 and above will have players assigned to that new team at the discretion of the registrar.

  1. First things first – you will need to create a member account (if you don’t already have one). Please see our tutorial on how to create a member account. Once you have created a member account, register your child to play soccer. Please see our tutorial on how to register a player if you need help. When you register your child, please put down in the “previous/requested team” text box “REQUEST Coach XXX” where “XXX” is your name and/or the team name. If you have a common last name, it is advisable to also include gender and age group (e.g., “REQUEST GU7 Coach Bob Smith/Team Wildcats”).

Note:It may be helpful to check this age group table if you aren’t sure what age group your child is in ( ).

Note:It is common for new U7 teams to have players who wish to play on the team but the Bonzi system rejects them as they have to register as a U6 and we do not offer that registration category. Parents may either register their child the following year with another group or they can “spoof” the system to register with this year’s group. To spoof the system, subtract one year from the child’s birth year. This will allow them to register as a U7. We do require a copy of a birth certificate as proof of the child’s age, so they will need to attach a short note that they wish to have their child play-up so that the registrar can go back and correct the date of birth (note – players always have to register at their natural age group regardless of the age group of the team they are assigned to).

Note:Please review this information so that you are aware of the maximum roster size per age group ( Mod & SYSA Citywide League Guidelines.doc).

  1. Sign in to your member account and register to coach this Fall. Please see our tutorial “How to register as a coach” for information on registering. On your coach registration form you can identify your child so that the registrar can be sure of placing both of you on the same team.
  1. Contact any parents of your child’s friends who may wish to be on the same team. Ask them to put in a request to be on your team and to use the same phrase that you used when registering your child. Advise them that the club generally assigns players to their requested teams when new teams are forming up. Do not promise to parents that “your son/daughter” is on the team, as only the club registrars can assign players to teams – there has been more than one coach who has had to retract their words and more importantly there is a very disappointed and hurt child. The biggest cause of this is misunderstanding the roster size limit and being over subscribed. These roster limits are dictated to us and we have no flexibility with them.

  1. Complete the team form, printing legibly and be sure to fill out each field. Note that we are requesting you to identify your registered assistants and team manager by their first name, phone number, and their Bonzi member account (that they used to register).
  1. Collect each player’s registration form for those players you know who are requesting your team. The reason to collect all the requesting forms is three fold: a) you get confirmation that these players have indeed registered; b) at U-7 we can be sure that those who wish to start together as a group do so (and no one gets accidentally left out because their form was misplaced or not together with the others); and c) it is more efficient for the registrar to process them if they are in a group together.
  1. Bring the completed team form and all collected registration forms to the club’s in-person registration event and hand it over to the appropriate registrar. Details of the in-person registration can be found at the bottom of the team form.
