REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS – Kacithia Wright, Facilities/Athletics Secretary, was recognized as a winner of the National Career Development Association’s 44th Annual Poetry and Poster Contest. This is Ms. Wright’s third consecutive year winning national honors in the poster competition.

Candice Life, a student at the Academy for Career Excellence and Hardeeville Middle/High School, was recognized as the Lowcountry of South Carolina Region Technology Champion. She will be recognized along with eleven other state champions at the South Carolina Education and Business Summit in Greenville, SC on June 26, 2011.

Rechel Anderson, Principal of Hardeeville Elementary School, was awarded the 2011 Outstanding Principal of the Year.

Student Athletic Recognitionsfrom both high schools were made:

Hardeeville High School: The Hardeeville Soccer Team, coached by Todd Roberson, was recognized as the Class 1A Region 5 Soccer Champions; however, no players were present at the meeting. The following students from the Hardeeville Track Team, coached by Steve Broome, were recognized: Aaron Grant, Charlie Morrison-Ford, Jamal Grant, Dominique Riley and Jarrell Knighton. Aaliyah Hill, Ravon Grant, Ty’Dasha Rivers and Raven Grant were recognized as Class A Winners for the Girls’ Hardeeville Track Team, coached by Anthony Elam.

Ridgeland High School: The Ridgeland Boys’ Track Team won their first Region Championship. Coach Russell Holley recognized the following students who were present at the meeting: Toray Amlett, Alvin Brown, Xavier Capers, Medicus Deloach, William Dupont, Jacob Ferguson, Johnathan Ferguson, Desjon Frazier, Michael Garrett, Marquis Griffin, Hamilton Harris, Antoine Johnson, Tyboshe Mikell, Tyron Mikell, Adrian Polite, Jacque Polite, Darnell Solomon, Immanual White, and Saydrian Williams.

The Board approved new guidelines for the upcoming High School Commencement Ceremonies: (1) Balloons, signs, book bags, coolers and air horns will not be permitted at Commencement Exercises. Violators will be asked to return them to their car or leavethem at thegate/door as they enter the building or stadium. (2) Loud outbursts distract from the graduates’ recognition. Offenders may be escorted off of the premises. (3) Guests are expected to remain for the duration of the ceremony, includingtherecessional, and adhere to district policies and guidelines.

The Board approved to contract with Technology Solutions of Charleston to install Surveillance Systems at both school campuses and a burglar system at the Hardeeville Campus. These systems will help to secure our schools and provide safe environments for all of our students and staff.
