BOROUGH OF POOLE

CANFORD HEATH EAST AND WEST, CREEKMOOR AND OAKDALE AREA COMMITTEE

21ST JANUARY 2004

The Web Portal for Poole Partnership

What is Poole Partnership?

Poole Partnership brings together public, private, community and voluntary organisations and groups to work together and improve the quality of life for all of us. It was formed following a period of listening to the views of local people and organisations throughout Poole. Its first job was to bring together these aspirations in the ‘Vision for Poole’, which sets out what people believe will contribute to their future well-being.

Why a Web Portal?

Communicating with and involving all residents and organisations is essential for the Partnership to turn this Vision into a reality. The Web Portal will be a computer-based information source and gateway to other websites. You will be able to use it to explain why your organisation exists, what it plans to do and what you have achieved. It will be a most effective tool for you to use to obtain users’ views on issues which concern you or your organisation. It will provide opportunities to make links and work with others locally and to find out about what other organisations are doing.

The Portal will be successful if it can be used in a variety of ways and able to involve as many Poole organisations and individuals as possible. The Partnership will gain a high profile when its content is both high quality and relevant to its users. It will also enable a wide range of organisations be part of this major communication tool by helping them to create their own web pages to share their news and views. It will also have the very attractive feature of providing groups with an effective and innovative consultation tool.

How can I get involved now?

A small team of experts will be working, through Poole Partnership, to develop this exciting new initiative and are keen to involve as many local organisations and individuals as possible. We need to be sure that we have a Web Portal that is able to meet Poole people’s needs. From January to March 2004 you will have the opportunity to assist the team in this development via various meetings and other opportunities being arranged all around Poole. We need you to tell us what you want to contribute to the Portal and what you will want from it. We need to be sure that as many people as possible will be able and eager to use the site and that it will be able to meet as many needs as possible. We will also be arranging training and awareness-raising sessions after the Web Portal has been launched later in the year.

To get involved contact Jonathan Burke or Hilary Evans at Poole Partnership on 01202 633063 (email: or ) as soon as possible.
