POSITION DESCRIPTION – SENIOR WRITER AND RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT TEAM LEADER

POSITION PURPOSE & DESCRIPTION: To manage the Resource Development Team and coordinate the Mission Support Team’s production of written materials

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES / PERFORMANCE MEASURES
Writing Mission Resources
Contribute to the writing of mission resources in accordance with briefs provided by the Mission Support Team Operations Manager /
  • Evidence of personal contribution to the writing of materials requested by the frontline

Editing Mission Resources
Ensure that all written materials produced by the Mission Support team are proofread and edited to a professional standard. /
  • Personally edit and proofread the majority of Mission Support Team written resources
  • Assign additional editors to assist with proofreading and editing as required
  • Written resources completed and returned to operations manager by given deadlines

Leadership of Resource Production Team
Provide leadership and management to the resource development team for the purpose of collaboration, efficiency and optimal quality results /
  • Collaboration-focused resource development team meetings held at least every 6 weeks
  • One-to-one accountability and support meetings with direct reports held at least once per month
  • Performance reviews for direct reports conducted annually

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: /
  • At least three years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience writing for a variety of audiences, in a range of styles
  • At least five years’ experience leading and managing teams
  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote, support and model the values and ethos of The Salvation Army and to facilitatepastoral support where required
  • WHS – knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation
  • Professional development required to maintain skills in this role
  • Experience editing and proofreading a broad range of written materials to a professional standard

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: /
  • Tertiary level qualification in writing or communications
  • Tertiary level qualification in Christian Theology

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Leadership and management skills
  • Highly self-motivated and driven
  • Comprehensive understanding of The Salvation Army’s theology and mission
  • Ability to write to a high professional standard, across a range of styles, audiences and mediums
