Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the position of Family Support Worker at NewfieldPrimary School. This is a fixed term post of one year to cover maternity. This pack contains information about the position. Please read it carefully as I believe this post offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.

The role of the Family Support Worker is to:

  • Support and include all pupils and their families in the school community.
  • Work directly with pupils, particularly those who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioural issues, in class and in small groups at lunch times and at other times.
  • Develop and maintain links with families in the school community.
  • Provide Parenting Support and Guidance (such as the Triple P programme)
  • Facilitate the provision of education, training and social opportunities for parents.
  • Support the Headteacher by working with parents to improve attendance and punctuality at the school.
  • Support the Headteacher in Child Protection cases and in safeguarding children.

You will need to be an extremely resilient and emotionally strong person as this work can be challenging and emotionally demanding. You will ideally have experience in a similar setting or role, but training can be provided where necessary. There is a strong pastoral team at the school and we support each other well; you will need to have good written and oral communication skills to help you to be an active member of this team. Place 2 Be is established at the school and children access counselling through this service.
