Dear {Student},

The Registrar’s Office has notified us that as of the end of the Fall2016semester your cumulative grade point average (GPA)is below 2.0, whichplaces you on academic probation. You will be limited to enrolling in no more than 14 credit hours in the Spring 2017. If you are currently registered for more than 14 credit hours, please adjust your schedule as soon as possible. Please visit the following link for more information:

The University College is dedicated to supporting students who are experiencing academic difficulty and due to your academic standing, you will be required to take a non-credit bearing online course at the beginning of the spring semester. This course will contain several modules and quizzes you will need to complete. Please monitor your UNCW email closely as you will receive more information on how to complete the modules. It is strongly recommended that you also consider participating in the Academic Peer Mentor Programin Spring 2017. Participationin this program can help youdevelop effective fundamental learning strategies and habits to be successful. If you choose to participate, you will be expected to meet with an academic peer mentor once a week for 8sessions. Although participation in this program is voluntary, it is crucial that you obtain the required 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain at UNCW. Please contact Carly Wilson at if you are interested in this academic support program.

It is critical that you earn significantly higher grades in the Spring 2017 semester. You must contact your academic advisor before classes start on January 9th to complete an advising appointment by January 13th. Your academic advisor can assist you with adjusting your spring class schedule in case there are classes you can repeat to positively impact your future GPA. Your academic advisor can also refer you to the appropriate UNCW resources designed to assist you in achieving your academic goals. You can call the University College office at 910-962-3245 for assistance in making an appointment. Please note the university will be closed from December 23, 2016 and reopen January 3, 2017.

Please understand the implications of your GPA in your plans for the coming year. UNCW policy specifies that unless you meet the cumulative 2.0 GPAgrade requirement by the conclusion of the Summer2017 term, your Fall 2017 registration will be cancelled and you will be dismissed from the University and not permitted to enroll forFall2017 and Spring2018.

I hopeyou will take advantage of this opportunity to improve your academic performance. Again, if you have questions or need assistance, please contact your academic advisor.

Sincerely,

Dr. Melinda J. Anderson
