GI-TEC & My104.3 WCZY/AM 830 WMMI

Student of the Month

My104.3 and the Gratiot-Isabella Technical Education Center (GI-TEC), Mt. Pleasant Campus, have partnered for several years to promote the recognition of outstanding Career Technical students through the Student of the Month program.

Nominees are selected by their instructors based on these criteria: responsibility, trustworthiness, outstanding character and citizenship, initiative and leadership in the classroom, commendable work ethic, desire and commitment to improve technical skills and succeed in their CTE program.

WCZY’s selection committee determines the recipients and provides them with a nice prize package and a beautiful plaque (courtesy of area businesses).

This month’s recipient was nominated by Emma Schafer, Educational Careers instructor. Congratulations to………

Natalie Berryhill

Ms. Schafer had this to say:

I would like to nominate Natalie Berryhill as the student of the month for May. Natalie has gone above and beyond in not only the GI-TEC classroom, but in her Vowles Elementary classroom placement as well. Veteran teacher, Judy Baker, has been mentoring Natalie throughout the year and boasts that she is beyond her years in skill and natural teaching ability.

Natalie has great instincts when working with children and often anticipates student struggles and frustration before they advance. She then responds quickly and appropriately, guiding learning and behavior in a positive manner. Natalie is also very patient and has demonstrated this skill when working with Mrs. Baker’s struggling students.

Outside of her placement classroom, Natalie shows great passion and ambition to be involved. When additional opportunities to work with children present themselves, she is the first to take action. This spring, Natalie became a teacher for the Girls on the Run program after school. As part of this program, she helps young girls gain self-esteem and learn important life lessons. Natalie is a great role model for the youth that come in contact with her, and she takes the role very seriously.

Natalie is also part of the Educational Careers Leadership Club, Project Unify, and Student Senate. She is an all-around leader and is very deserving of this honor. It is her ambition, patience, energy, intelligence, and advanced skills that set her apart from the rest.
