GIBRALTARWOMEN’S ASSOCIATION PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

RULES AND GUIDELINES 2016

General rules:

  1. The competition is open to all Gibraltar residents.

2.Computer generated imagery is not allowed, but using photo editing programmes to enhance or manipulatephotographic images is allowed.

3.The entrant must have originated and must own the copyright of all work submitted. This applies equally to all components of composite images (whether assembled by traditional or digital means). The use of “copyright free” or “clip art” material is not allowed.

4. The GWA reserves the right to reject or accept any images and a selection of entries will

be chosen for display.

5. The GWA reserves the right to use all images submitted for competition and exhibition without payment, in promoting the GWA and GWA events, for use on the GWA’s website and social media groups, for publicity in the press, and for exchanges and competitions with other photographic groups. All images will be duly credited, and copyright of all images will always remain with the author.

6. Entries: (a) Maximum number of entries is 3 per participant.

(b) Entries may be monochrome or colour or both.

7.Size and format :

(i)Entries must be mounted on card (black or white) and unsigned.Card size must be 30cm by 40cm.

(ii)Entries may carry a title; but this is optional.

(iii)For prints, the longest side of the entry must not exceed 30 cm.

(iv)No minimum size is stipulated.

8.Theme :

The theme for this competition is ‘Strong Women: Strong World’. The word ‘strong’ can be interpreted literally and/or metaphorically. The aim of the competition as a whole is to celebrate the diversity of women’s experiences and skills. Similarly, the subject of the photograph can be a group of women or a single woman. Any participants who are not clear as to how to interpret the theme of the competition, should seek help and advice from the GWA’s committee member Marlene Dalli-

9. Judging and Points:

Each photograph will be judged in accordance with a set of criteria which will be printed on a marking grid to be used by the judges. Images will be awarded points against each of these criteria, using a scale shown on the grid.
