The Contractor shall cooperate and coordinate construction activities with the owners of utilities as stated in Section 104.08, Cooperation by the Contractor, of the Michigan Department of Transportation 2012 Standard Specifications for Construction. In addition, for protection of underground utilities, the Contractor shall follow the requirements in Section 107.12, Contractor’s Responsibility for Utility Property and Services. Contractor delay claims, resulting from a utility, will be determined based upon Section 109.05, Payment for Contract Revisions and Section 108.09, Request For Time extensions On Work Day, Calendar Day, and Calendar Date Contracts.

Utilities may be relocating or replacing facilities which may or may not be shown on the plans in conjunction with the proposed roadwork.

Owners of Public Utilities will not be required by the Road Commission for Oakland County to move additional poles or structures in order to facilitate the operation of construction equipment unless it is determined by the Engineer that such poles or structures constitute a hazard to the public or are extraordinarily dangerous to the Contractor’s operations.

a.Known Utility Conflicts:

There are known overhead electric and cable facilities along the south side of the road. These utilities are not planned to be relocated for this project.

There is an underground gas facility on the southside of the project. The 6” gas main isunderneath the east and west approaches and is hung underneath the west structure (B01). The contractor is to use extreme caution to avoid the gas main and coordinate with the owner to receive information on the depth and location. This utility is not planned to be relocated.

There are underground phone facilities on the north side of the project. This utility runs through ducts in the north sidewalk of each bridge and hang off the north side fascia of the bridge. The underground utility is not planned to be relocated for this project. The contractor must use caution while working near these utilities.

There are conduits attached to the north fascia of both bridges. This utility is not planned to be relocated. The contractor must use caution while working near these utilities.

There is a watermain on the south side of the project. This utility is not planned to be relocated for this project.
