The First Community Bank Great Chili Cook Off

3:00-6:00pm

Hales Springs Inn Courtyard, Rogersville, TN

The Rules……..

The entry fee for each team is $20. Teams are limited to 4 persons including the chief cook. Teams will be supplied a table and a propane burner with gas. All other cooking equipment is to be supplied by the team. Team members (max 4) will receive an apron provided by First Community Bank as a souvenir.

Teams should prepare approximately 2 gallons of chili. Meats are to be USDA certified only. Wild game is not acceptable. Home canned tomatoes and beans may be used. Nothing is to be prepared prior to the cook off. Your recipe and all ingredients are to be cooked within the allotted time.

Teams should be on location by 2:30pm. Official cook time (lit burners) begin promptly at 3:00pm. Pre work, such as cutting vegetables, chopping, opening cans, etc. is acceptable after 2:30pm.

Sample will be collected for judging at 5:00pm. Approximately 1 pint will be collected. At this time, the event will be opened to the public for sampling. Sample bowls and spoons will be sold for $5.00 each. Each team will need to insure that at least one member remains with the table during this time to serve the public.

Each team will be assigned a team number and a ticket will be provided with each bowl purchased, so that the public can vote for a People’s Choice award.Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as determined by a panel of judges. There will be an award for the Most Creative Tent. The People’s Choice award will be given to the team with the most votes from the public.

Parking is limited behind the Inn and much of the lot will be reserved for Inn guests. If there are no parking spots available, it is acceptable to use the lot for unloading purposes. There should be plenty of parking available at the First Baptist Church lot across from the Post Office. Main Street will be blocked to traffic, but can be used for temporary unloading at the start of the cook off, but will not be accessible after the cook off has started. Please be courteous, do not block access for others and move quickly from unloading areas.
