The Final Weeks of a School Year Are Often Very Hectic. As the Year Begins to Draw to An

May, 2017

Dear Parents,

The final weeks of a school year are often very hectic. As the year begins to draw to an end, things are also hectic here at St. Clare. Last weekend our second grade students made their First Eucharist. It was a beautiful celebration despite all the rain. The rain continued for Wednesday night’s Confirmation for the eighth grade. The Eucharistic celebration and the conferring of the sacrament was a wonderful expression of our faith and didn’t dampen the evening at all.

Sunday, May 7, from 7:30-1:30, is the annual Art Show. Please stop by after Mass to see the great display of art work by our students. The students’ work will be on display all week. Stop by any afternoon between 2:00-3:00 to view it. A special thanks to Mrs. Hummel and the students who helped set up the display.

At the same time as the Art Show is the Scholastic Buy One Get One Free Book Fair will be taking place. It will run through Monday at 3:00. Muffins with Mom will be Monday morning from 7-7:50 with an additional opportunity to do some book shopping. Thank you Mrs. Gier, Mrs. McLaughlin, and Mrs. Twellman for all your efforts with the Book Fair.

Thursday, May 11, at 1:45 is our Spring Sing! This is something you do not want to miss! Ms. McCormick and the students have been working very hard on their musical presentation. Ms. McCormick has sent home a note about Spring Sing attire in the Friday folder for May 5.

Weather permitting Field Day will be held on Friday, May 12, from 9:30-11:00. Hopefully we will get a respite from the rain for the Field Day activities. Thanks to Mrs. Tischer for all her efforts with this event.

Here is an update on our staffing for next year. Mrs. Evans will be moving to second grade since right now we will only have one class for kindergarten. Mrs. Laura Morrow will be joining our staff as the 7th and 8th grade English and Literature teacher. She will have an 8th grade homeroom. Mrs. Morrow is returning to St. Louis from Milwaukee where she was a teacher and consultant in the Milwaukee Archdiocese. Mrs. Vangel and I are still interviewing for the 7th/8th grade math position and the 5th/6th Social Studies position.

Monthly Reminders:

  • Early dismissal at 12:00 on Friday, May 12, for a faculty meeting
  • D.A.R.E. Graduation for the 6th grade, Wednesday, May 17 at 1:30 in Church

  • 8th Grade Graduation, Wednesday, May 24 at 7:00 in Church

Don’t’ forget to RSVP for the school picnic on Friday, May 26. The picnic will be held again this year on the school grounds. A flyer is coming home in the Friday folder on May 5. On the flyer are instructions about dismissal and picnic instructions.

Our last All School Mass is Friday, May 26 at 8:30. Please join us as we say good bye to our teachers and staff who are leaving St. Clare of Assisi.

The fourth quarter ends on May 26. Report cards will be mailed on Friday, June 2. The office closes on June 9 at 12:00 and reopens on Tuesday, August 1 from 9-12:00. Phone messages, email messages, and USPS mail will be checked on a regular basis during the summer.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the St. Clare School and Parish communities for all the prayers, blessings, and support I have received these past 17 years. I will miss the priests, parents, students, teachers, and staff. I have been blessed in so many ways, and I leave with such fond memories of my time as principal. Please continue to keep me in your prayers as I begin this “retirement” journey!

Sincerely, Marie Sinnett
